Default ::::DIY:::: Top and Rear Hatch Partitions

I am giving forum member jost6453 full credit with coming up with the idea of adding a top partion to the rear partition mod to the interior.
Based on his design, and with his helpful info on building these, I set out to do just that.
The reasons I wanted to do this were threefold:
a) A good way to replace the cargo shade
b) Add the top partition to block off some of the noise coming from the empty space.
c) Stop some of the wind buffeting with the targa top removed on a nice sunny day.

I've attached my DIY in PDF format with pictures and description.
Hopefully, it will inspire others to take on this great interior mod.

Thanks for the write-up. Looks like a good mod for those seeking to remove some of the noise.

It will help supress the noise for sure. The foam and carpet does absorb some decibels.

Side benefit: your stereo will be louder and more clear.

That was reason #4 for doing these partitions. Every little bit of noise suppression in the cabin helps with improved stereo sound for sure

Nice work.

But one of the big reasons I bought MY Vette was the large cargo area. I was looking at 370Z's and Porsche Caymans, but they didn't fit my lifestyle as well. I do get some looks when I take my Vette fishing with ice chests, tackle boxes, etc. But it's so much more fun than taking the Cherokee over Hwy 17 to Santa Cruz.

Thank you 4SUMERZ for the shout-out. It is a great little mod for many reasons. And not to worry about limiting cargo space. Both panels just lift right out.

BTW ... I have provided paper templates of both pieces for a few members that have requested them. Let me know if I can help you out! -DJ.

We take our coupe on many road trips, and fill the back most of the time. I've never had to remove the top portion to fit the contents, but I do know the limits of the height to the top partition.
As DJ has mentioned, both are easily removed as needed, and the cargo shade can be re-deployed in those cases where more height space is required for certain trips.
I also looked at many road trip vehicles in the sporty class, and the C6 ticked off all of my needs. Most of the sports cars have limited space for storage (suitcases, golf clubs, etc.

I can provide the templates and guidance, but I do not sell complete. They are time consuming to make and very expensive to ship due to the size.

'Hats off'! to 4sumerz for a great write-up. I'll just add a couple comments ....

I used wood for the divider although I agree foam would work equally well. If you go with wood, use something that will not warp. I used a piece of 6'x 1' laminated pine (edge glued boards). No warp issue. You will need to route in a slot to provide enough room for top storage

For the top panel, you can get by without adding plywood if you use 1" FOIL faced foam. The foil on both faces will prevent sagging. Without plywood added, it remains light enough to fasten with Velcro.

Good luck with this project! I have one in both my C5 and C6 coupes and love them! -DJ

Thanks DJ, but you get all the credit for being the originator of this great project. I merely tweaked the partition a bit by using a few different materials for my application.
It was your design, with your help and guidance that got me to do this for my C6.

The attached PDF if expanded will show you the dimensions at various locations of both partitions. You can use these dimensions, transfered to cardboard, then fit and trim to the hatch area until you are satisfied with the fit taking into consideration of the width of the carpeting that will cover the partition.

Good Luck

One more 'tip'. If you are making your own templates, do one half (one side) at a time. When you get the contours right, just overlap the two sides and tape them together in the middle. Much easier than trying to get a one piece unit to fit properly.
