coolant temp issue
A few weeks back, I started having an issue with my coolant temp gauge reading zero, and the DIC saying "engine hot, A/C off". After a while of driving, it will eventually start working again. I had a feeling it was the coolant temp sensor, but this was verified by a very helpful forum member. I went out to Pep Boys and bought a new sensor, and installed it in less than an hour. A few days passed with everything working properly, then it started giving me the same issues again. I am thinking that I might have been sold a bad coolant temp sensor, or the plug it self has gone bad. I want to head out to the Chevrolet dealership and buy a stock plug and sensor, but I want to make sure that there is not something else that I might be missing. Anybody have any ideas what else might be causing this? One thing that I have noticed is that it seems to happen after I hit a rough patch of road. And since the surface of the moon is smoother than the roads here in Nashville, it happens quite frequently.

It's very likely an air bubble in the system that you will have to get out. Did you change the coolant recently?

If it the gauge goes to 0 after hitting a rough patch on the road, I would suspect a lose wire grounding out the sensor. Trace back the sensor wiring and look for burnt or bare wire. Maybe someone will provide a wire schematic to trace back and check both ends of the wire for a lose or poor connection. Also, I would install a GM sensor just to eliminate the sensor, even the aftermarket sensor.

I think remembering this issue coming up here and with the ground wire attached to the very front left (driver side) lower side on the engine. This grounds the harness that's related to the coolant sensor. May have to get under the car, using a bright light, it's hidden in the area.
