Just stop eating out twice a week for a year and you'll make up any money you thought is owed to you with the unveiling of the C8.

So it will be like every other corvette. Don't get me wrong, I love my GS but a lot of things about the car are a joke.

Absolutely not. They will not increase in value. Prpduct is product and there are plenty of c6s around.

You're probably correct. I don't expect much out of GM, but I could be surprised.

Even if the C8 is "right" I couldn't get myself to commit to a first year in a new series anyway. Just look at the last two - the 2005 C6 and the 2014 C7.

I wouldn't own a midengine car. They are nothing but headaches to own and maintain.

I don't care what the cost will be new, let someone else brag they have the first one. I'll buy one after the huge depreciation happens like all chevys LOL...

For me, it is difficult to think about going waaaay into debt to buy something that will replace something I really enjoy. What if I make that move, then find out that it is no more enjoyable than what I had, or maybe even worse? What a bummer.

Right now, I live in a nice condo on the golf course. There are affordable standalone homes on the course that I could move up to, but why do that? I enjoy what I have. Same for thinking about a $100+K Vette.

I would think a best it will slow the decline in prices as cars get older. The c6 is probable more sensitive to c7 prices than future c8's. Theres a boatload of c7's out there so used prices should drop steadily

Thats a scary thought. At some point you learn to be happy with what you have not what you want.

Seems some of us really like to criticize the Corvette and I admit it has some problems but in saying that lets admit that for the money (excluding the C-8) it competes with some pretty high dollar exotics and accounts for itself pretty damned well. Yes it has faults but try looking at other forums for "you name it", you will see just how finicky and COSTLY other high performance cars are, just my humble opinion thou.
Maybe BlindSpot can chime in here and tell us a few of the costs for his new "Beast Bentley", its astronomical what he tells me little things cost

Would GM "kill" its sales base?

If GM increased the Vette line substantially and offered no Vette alternative, then
yes all Vette depreciation could slow in regard to the price of entry. OP asks
an economics theory question.

FWIW I have no interest in a Camaro alternative.
I have been saying this for sometime now. I really think this will be a special edition C7. I say this because I don't see GM giving up the standard Corvette and pinning everything on a mid-engine only. Also if you look at the so called renderings it looks very much like the front of the ZR-1 If in fact this is a Corvette and not the somewhat rumored Cadillac. GM knows their market audience with Corvette and to say, no more front engine rear wheel drive Corvette's would mean losing a lot of sales. Besides the price alone would drive the normal Corvette owner away.
Now what I think may be in the works is to introduce this as a Special edition and phase the standard

There is a lot to say for being content. Well, good for you! Wish I were. It would be so much easier. Instead, I'm chasing a different dream every minute, it seems. I have no capacity for being satisfied for very long.

This is coincidental, but demonstrates our contrast - I (we) too have a condo in a private golf club gated community, We bought the condo to live in while a custom home was being built in the same community. Took a year to build the custom home; we just closed on it two weeks ago. It went for sale Friday (never lived in) and the condo is for sale too, and we actually never move into it either.

Haha.....funny.....don't think there is any interest in that here. All things are relative.

$170k and lose $80-90k in the first 3-5 years. Probably with the same GM normal operations features.

I was involved in a discussion on another forum that suggested that GM wants to distance the Corvette from the typical middle class market that they have played to in the past. I hope this isn't true.

that's why I'm thinking if they do then those who want a Corvette will have to pay just a little more for a used one.

not everyone has enough cash to bur a 6 figure car.
im sure we'll be finding out soon enough.

If the C8 lists for $180k what is the value of my C6.?

Since this means the C8 will be the very last corvette, hard to say? worth as much as Avanti? Edsel? Tucker?

I love my C6... and admit that a mid-engine C8 looks tempting... but at that price point, I'd go with a 2017 Audi R8 v10 and have something just as unique... and a proven performance rig with impeccable styling inside and out.... just say'n... All that said... $170 large is still LARGE!! (Dreaming is so much fun!)
