Another Tire Purchase question
I've seen plenty tire related questions on here, so how about mine. I have a 05 Base Vert with 17,000 miles on it. As part of an insurance claim, (my son hit the median, another story), I received two new Goodyear F1 EM-2 Run Flats. Same as what's on the back, that I believe are original with approximately 60% tread on them, but still 13 years old. My dilema is this, I want new tires, it will cost over $900 for the back tires to match the new fronts. However, for less than that price, I can purchase 4 Firestone Firehawks, which I've read is a lot quieter, but not run flats. Also, I live in Central California and like to drive my car during the winter months once in awhile. It can be 55 degrees and sunny on such a day. I know summer tires don't work so good when it's cold. (The ones on the back right now are terrible, they act like bologna skins when it's slightly cold). So for near the price of two Goodyear rear runflats, I could get 4 all season radials, only thing I think the tread pattern doesn't look as nice on the all season radials. I have an idea in mind what I want, but would like to hear other suggestions. As always, thanks for the help.
Also, I have the F55 MRC option, when I search for tires on tirerack,, it asks me if I have the performance handling option, I answer no, is that correct?

If the lowest temperature that you will drive the car in is 55 F, then I would not get All-Season tires. Definitely, get a good summer tire. 55 F is still plenty warm for a summer tire.
The two best tires that I recommend are the Continental ExtremeContact Sports or the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. If you insist on an all season tire, I would get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+'s.

I've run the older style Firestone WO Firehawk Indy 500 tires (non runflats) since 2010 which replaced my 1/2 worn GY F1 Supercar tires.
There was a night and day difference in how that tire performed comparted to the F1 in all aspecs.
I have driven the Firestones in below 40F weather, and they handled well, although it was just on a day trip, not extended driving over months. They drive well in temps over 50F with no issues.
I'm not sure how the newer style Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's are compared to the old style, but Tire Rack has good reviews on them. I've decided to go with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S this time around. They are more expensive, but they have the highest ratings in all categories. I do many road trips, so I want a tire that is good in Wet, Dry, and quiet comfortable ride.
We shall see.

As far as the "performance handling option" goes, I believe that refers to the Z51 option.
I hate that tire rack always asks for this, as this would only apply if you were buying wheels and/or suspension components.

Thanks all for the input. I can't help but notice no one suggested I buy two new goodyear run flats to match the 2 new front run flats I just got. They are the only tire I have experience with on my C6. They really must be louder than other brands. I got a decision to make here soon, probably get 4 new non run flats.

I think most people will agree that there are much, much better and cheaper tires than the Goodyears.
Honestly, I have never had good experiences with any cars that I have owned that had Goodyear tires on them. They have always been the worst tires I have had.
The Goodyear tires I had on my GS were consistently awful. From what I could tell, my 2011 GS was on it's second set of factory Goodyears and I got the car with 18.5K on the odometer. The Goodyear tires were at (maybe slightly below) the wear bars. So I estimate those Goodyears barely lasted to 10,000 miles on a set. They also made the car handle terribly. Any imperfection in the road surface the car wanted to steer itself and follow those imperfections. So I put on a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Night and day difference.

HUM....Still wonder why some of us replace old worn out rubber with a different brand and then rant & rave about how much better the new tire is than the old POS that was on the car. PEOPLE....The cheapest brand new tire is gonna be better than the old worn out one regardless of the brand.............. .
