Default Painting Inside Of Wheels - DIY or No?

Hey Guys,

Scrubbing the inside / back of my chrome Z06 wheels isn't getting them clean anymore... I was thinking about repainting them myself.

So I have two questions:

1) Is this job more difficult than Im thinking? To me, its scuffing / sanding down the inside barrel, taping off the wheel properly to avoid any over-spray, then spray the wheels with paint...

2) What paint color do I use to get the closest to the factory silver on the inside of the rims? Anyone have a link? Im guessing a spray can would be ok... Would a clear coat be necessary?

Thanks!

I would just paint them black to hide it all.

Have you read this thread from last week? https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...my-wheels.html

Some paint suggestions before it went off the rails (shockingly).

It is easy. Just clean, scuff, mask, paint. Not sure about the factory color. I went with black. It really make the chrome 'pop'. And they get black anyway from brake dust. Have fun.

Can you please post a picture of your chrome wheel with the black inside? Also - did you do a clear coat at the end?

Easy DIY project. Clean, scuff, wipe down with isopropyl alcohol and paint with ceramic caliper paint. Be sure to mask everything off that you don't want painted.

Totally agree. That's what I did on my GS wheels, both sets. Very

I assume all responsibility for that getting off track... I was headed down the same path with paint but once I started stripping off the silver I liked the idea of the chrome better. Lots of elbow grease, paint stripper and thinner and I’m pleased. I do have one tip to share: Do it in a well ventilated area. I think I killed a few brain cells with the thinner!

Haha, no, I was talking about the bickering. I think you made the right choice by stripping to chrome. Your thread, your rules.

That looks GREAT! I have heard others say that their barrels did not look so good under the paint, but yours look awesome. How long of a process start to finish?

I spent about 3 hours on the first one with just Tarminator and laquer thinner. After that I got some paint stripper for the second one, spent about an hour on that one using thinner too. I’m gonna try applying the stripper differently on the next one Saturday morning to see if I can shave a little more time off.
