found a 08 c6z that has been well maintained and has had the valve train replaced by the dealer. has around 20k on it and all maintenance and service has been done by one dealer and all documented. even though the book value is 38,500, they are asking 41 and wont budge. do you think the car could be worth more then book value?

Since you say that the valve train has been addressed and there's a possibility that the dealership would stand behind their work in the event something goes wrong in the future then maybe that's worth something to you as the buyer.
Maybe it's exactly the color with exactly the right equipment that you've been looking for? Lots of factors to be considered when determining whether it's the right car for you or not.
Good luck with your decision.

They're gauging interest if its new inventory and if the OP went in there jumping up and down, then they smell blood in the water.
But, to the OP, if you really want this car and are willing to pay for it, then price is right....for you. Buy it and don't question or look back.

I bought an 09 Z this week that has less miles than the one you are looking at, it has heads, intake, cam, headers, 3lz interior, and it has new tires on it - for less. Keep looking. That is way high. It does't say in your profile where you are from, but if you are willing to expand your search, are willing to possibly fly somewhere to get the car or have it shipped to you, then you can get some pretty good deals even figuring in the cost of flying or shipping. I'm in S.C. and the car I bought is in TX.

If the car is exactly what you have been looking for , then go get it...the price is high but not outrageously so, look it over carefully & make a decision

Buy a one owner original car. These dealers are nothing but sales people.Buy the best and when andif you have to sell you will get a fair return. To many nice cars out there to buy a vehicle some one has played with.

Way too high. KBB puts it at about 34-35 excellent condition for dealer sale and 32-33 private sale. See if it needs tires and when the battery was changed. Also see if the heads were reworked as that has been a point of contention on the z06 forum. Some people wont touch one without the heads being done. Cost of that is antwhere in the neighborhood of $6000. Tires and balance and alig ment is around $2400. Things to think about.

Book values for Corvettes are notoriously inaccurate. KBB doesnt buy cars, they develop algorithms to predict prices. Cars like a Camry for their models well, rarer cars like Corvettes, not so much.

Book value is just one data point. You need to look at the market of what others are asking for similar age/miles/features. Of course that is just asking not what people are paying - again, another data point.
I must have reviewed at least 30 other Z06's for sale (on line) in order to get a sense for what they're going for. When I found mine I then knew it was a reasonable price and of course I made an offer and we negotiated a satisfactory price. Could only do this if I had the general market sense as well as knowing what I was willing to pay.
that all said, $41K sounds high - but do your research.
Lastly, find out how they fixed the "valvetrain". Heads replaced? With another OEM set (not good , just a new set with the same problem)? Or from an aftermarket supplier that knows how to fix the head?

Is this a dealer car or private? Seems a bit high for an '08 but if its perfect it may be worth it. Don't settle for a high price if it's not the right color and options you want. I was looking for something similar to you but am leaning to a newer grand sport of maybe a '12 or '13 regular vette.

My opinion would be that $38,500 is about right for retail market price. Assuming there are no issues with the car, I would want a couple grand off that to feel like I got a good deal. $41K is a big stretch IMO, but if it's the car you have to have, then its worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I would imagine you would take a pretty good bath on it if you tried to resale anytime in the near future though.
I spent 2 years looking for my current C6. When I found "the car" I paid close to full retail from a private party and then paid to have it shipped from PA to TX. I'm fine with the fact I didn't get a great deal. Resale doesn't bother me as I plan to keep it forever. I got the exact car I was looking for and have no regrets!

They only made 17 Inferno Orange 427s and I had other toys to play with in mean time. I'm glad it took me 2 years, otherwise I might not have had enough time to convince my wife I "needed" another vette.

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
I, too, kept looking for a couple years to find just the car I wanted. On a random weekend last year I found 2 Inferno Orange Grand Sports, black interior, manual 6-speeds. One was a ‘12 1LT, the other a ‘13 2LT. The interior package didn’t concern me because I knew I was going to swap things out anyway. The ‘13 was priced $8k more than the ‘12 & the dealer with the ‘13 told me to get the ‘12 if it were still available, and I did. That $8k in savings on pretty much the same car allowed me to get to modding it sooner
The price on that one seems high & there are plenty available. I’d keep looking.
