We get these pretty regularly now in the Phoenix metro area. Traffic engineers are experimenting with some creative ways of either preventing one from entering the highway the wrong way, or a more passive alert/alarm system.
In one of the more recent ones, a DPS officer was close by. He entered onto the highway and, with the wrong way headed right at him, he glanced the car to create an accident and disable it (risking his own life). The woman driver was 3x over the DUI limit, and she had a child in the car. She is now suing the state of Arizona for damages.

I'm still in my 40"s but I can tell you I have witnessed this happening more than a few times. Either a car entering the highway on the exit ramp or driving the wrong way. Fortunately I never witnessed an accident but I did receive an update once that one of these resulted in a fatal accident minutes after I passed. In the case above, even if both were impaired, I do feel worse for the person driving in the right direction especially considering he had the smaller of the two cars and probably got the worst of the impact.

I can't believe the driver of the vette survived after seeing the photo! I live about 25 mins from there, and I'm not surprised, considering how people drive here in general, drunk or not!

Looks like the other car may have went over the C6 and a sturdy A pillar saved the drivers life.

Driver is responsible but, State Dept. of Trans. could do a better job with "Wrong Way" notification/identifications. Some time well lit wrong way signs light up other times they don't and are small and hard to see at night. I have lived in several states and they all do the clover leaf access a bit differently which can be confusing. Alcohol obviously negates everything but a better job preventing wrong way access would save a life. Just saying.

You hope they will both be Ok??? Why so they can drive drunk again! There's less than a 0% chance that this is the first time they've done this. The only way to keep it from ever happening again to to get them the **** off this planet!

Not to be ***** but why is this being posted here?
There are accidents like this every day in this country .
I just don't see the reason to post here.
They we're drunk, they rolled the dice and lost.
This don't belong here unless it were a forum member in my book.
This is one of the many reasons I quit drinking 30 years ago.
I didn't want to be in prison or dead because I wanted to drink and drive. Dumb if you ask me to get behind the wheel drunk.
