Sports car vs Muscle car has been debated on this forum before, I like what one member called the Corvette, "a sports car with muscle"! That pretty much sums it up.

I agree. When I think muscle cars, I'm thinking Chevelle SS, Camaro Z28, Firebird, Mustang GT, Road Runner, Charger, Challenger, etc, etc. To me, it means go fast in a straight line and that's about it.

I would tend to agree with this statement, I’d also say that if given only two choices most vettes are more “sports car” than “muscle car” but saying no vette is a muscle car is ridiculous and my actual vette is most definitely more muscle car than sports cars, that’s how I built it and is what I almost specifically use it for....straight lines.....1/4-1/2 mile and 60-130mph rolls. I probably use 0% of the sports car feature. The guys with almost strictly road course vettes are the complete opposite. So same car yet two completely different uses and categories would suit each car individually.

If I may... ‘Muscle Cars" are usually a 2+2 or 3. Firebird/Trans Am, Camaro, GTO, 442, Charger, etc. The Corvette is a proper “sports car.” One driver, one crash test dummy, minimal practicality. The way motorsports are meant to be.

If you took a Camaro body/rolling chassis and dropped a Corvette drivetrain in it, you’d have a Camaro. It’s kinda always been the formula. Chevy just fudged the hp/tq numbers for the f-body. Yes. Camaro are muscle cars. Always have been, always will be.

The period equivalent Corvettes werent exactly tearing up the tracks either. Chevy essentially had to bring back the ZR1 to avoid embarrassing itself.

And yes. Muscle Cars come in varying degrees with varying options, engines, power outputs, etc. No one is calling the Challenger a sports car. It’s a muscle car. Let’s discuss its various trims, engine options, etc. Same goes for Camaro, Mustang, Charger...

Or would you prefer to continue cherry picking and making yourself look silly?

Muscle car is an American term used to refer to a variety of high-performance automobiles. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door mid size cars with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."

Exactly! So by your definition the Corvette is not a muscle car. Thanks!

I never really ever considered the Corvette to be a mid-size.

I don’t know maybe your right? I guess when I thought of a sports car I always thought of foreign cars. I think in my mind American cars are muscle cars.

The lines are blurred in today’s time. It’s difficult to define what a sports car is any more or a grand tourer. Muscle cars are to big to be a Corvette.
