I've had my 2010 GS for almost 2 years now. With 2 of its Michelin PS2's runflats being made in 2011 and the other 2 early 2012, I'm ready to get some new tires. I've been reading that April is the best time to buy since they are more likely to have sales then. Is anyone else waiting til then or is there a better time to buy? I live in Dallas so will be going with summer tires and thinking of the Continental extremes or the Hankooks. Haven't 100% decided on runflat or not but leaning heavily towards non. Couldn't be more excited for the spring to get here....

I was in the tire biz many years ago. Back then (not sure about now) dealers would book (order) their tires for the new year sales in Dec./Jan. There were huge incentives to book early, Tires would arrive March and April. Dealers would have sales in March/April as inventories were large and they had to start paying for the new tires.

Don't really have anything to compare them to. Just didn't want to spend $1300 on tires and have read plenty of good things about the Continentals. If the Michelins were on sale I'd definitely be interested in a set though

I find that whatever tire I decide on I can just go over to Discount Tire and they'll always either beat or match the price. I currently have Michelin Super Sports on mine.

Discount had a good sale around Black Friday, A set of Contis were $1000 out the door. Fronts were in stock but had to wait a month for the rears to arrive, wasn't driving it anyway so didn't mind. They should have a similar sale in the spring though.

Just a month ago I purchased 4 Conti Extreme Contact Sports (19" front 20" rear) from Discount Tire in Flower Mound, TX. Been buying tires at that location for over 15 years (same store manager since they opened). They did a good job.

I dont think theres any seasonal price fluctuations in tires. You might get a sale for black Friday, 4th ot july, etc... but it's not like a seasonal variation.

I have the hankooks and I am happy with them. Especially since they were half the price of the super sports I had on my last one. They have similar grip, and they may not last as long... but that doesnt bother me.

I wish we had a Discount near us. I always found them to price match and service was excellent. Sam's or Costco are hit and miss when it comes to "skilled" labor.

I buy tires from Discount Tire Direct on Ebay (no sales tax) when they have sales, which is pretty much every major holiday. And you can still use applicable manufacturer rebates. Then have them installed at Costco or a brick and mortar DT. I haven't found a cheaper way to buy tires. No, DT stores will not match DTD prices.

My local Discount Tire actually has better prices than DTD sometimes, even with tax added in. Sometimes the stores have tires that DTD doesnt have. You cant besr the 100 off 400 ebay sales though, I've used those a few times and saved a ton.

^ Yeah, there are definitely fewer choices with DTD.

I have the Continental Extreme Contact Sport (285/30/19 & 335/25/20) and am happy with them. I did have a several month hassle of trying to fix strong vibration after putting them on. There is only 1 Discount Tire near be with the roadforce balancer, and I had to make several trips & replace both front tires to get it figured out. I'm not happy with this particular DT (and I've been buying tires from DT since 1998) because they couldn't get the balancing right, tried to keep charging me for re-balancing even after I literally left the shop, drove a couple miles down the tollway and came right back. Charged me for a pro-rated amount to replace the tire under Continental's 60 day satisfaction guarantee & needed to make a show of my car when they pulled it in (popping the hood, 10 techs around it, etc.).

That being said, I always check online price plus shipping then add installation vs buying in-store with tax. Many times it comes out cheaper to buy the tires online & have them shipped then take them over & have them installed than buying in-store. And as was pointed out many DT will not match DTD online pricing. Here's another tidbit, I called 4 different DT around me & all gave me different prices for install with some being more than double the others.

I replaced Goodyear run flats with Michelin Pilot Super Sports a couple of days ago. The change in ride was dramatic for the best.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (replaced the now retired Super Sport) is the ONLY tire I'd consider. Everything else is just a compromise.

Yeah I don't think people realize how much of an impact tires make on a car, especially a sports car. I still don't understand why the Corvette comes with factory run-flats. They're garbage.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but some decent reviews on these from people that used them on C6 vettes - although......one bad review .
