Default Front camera with license plate

I am looking to install a front camera on my wife's 2010 Grand Sport. It has a front license plate mounted on a Top Flight mount. Most of the examples I've found on the forum of people mounting front cameras has the camera located in the center and no license plate. Has anybody mounted the camera offset to one side or the other? Any clever mounting location suggestions? I would prefer not to mount a camera under the car. This car sits low enough and it'd only be a matter of time before a low clearance would take the camera out.

Thanks.

This is the one I used... For $20 it works like a champ!

I wish I would have saw this thread before my purchase because I kinda like the idea of the license mount behind the plate like above. I just ordered two of these for front and back figured they would not stick out like a sore thumb

I just mounted mine under the bumper to the right of the license plate. The plate does block some of the left side of the frame, but it works perfectly fine for watching curbs.

This might be a good solution. I like the clean look of the Top Flight front license plate, so I'm worried that this may disrupt that look. But I might give it a try. Thanks.

Dash cam
The main purpose for this camera is for parking. I'm thinking of doing a dash cam as well.

I wish Maryland didn't have front license plates. But I'm glad the previous owner never drilled in the bumper to mount the license plate.

Do you have a picture of what this looks like? Thanks.

This is a dumb question, but where do you view the image sent from the cameras?

On the console screen? Phone?

Sure, here are a few pics at different angles. In the first one you can see that the camera disappears visually into the dark background. For the remaining pics I shined a bright flashlight on it for a clear view. In case you notice that there are no screws holding on the license plate, I have it attached with magnets.

While I'm at it. here's a view of what it looks like on the display. Yep, it's mostly a view of the right side immediately in front of the car, but I figure I should be able to work with that.

Many C6 owners have swapped the stock headunit (radio) with an aftermarket Kenwood or Pioneer or some other brand that accepts backup and front camera inputs.

Default Camera Install

Looking to do this to my 2009. Front and back cams to a new Pioneer dual DIN receiver. Any tips, videos, writeups on how/where you ran the cable from the camera to the headunit, both front and rear? I'm planning on doing my own install and this part of the job seems to be the most challenging.

Appreciate any tips, links, videos that may help.

The rear came wire can run through the opening for the license plate light. From there it can run over to one of the tail lights. With the tail light removed you can drill a small hole through the tub to run the wire through and then seal it with some Silicon. Just make sure you know what's on the other side before drilling. I went through the tub behind one of the right side tail lights. At that point you're in the car and can run under the trunk carpet and behind the trim on the side. Eventually you can find your way to the passenger foot well and head to the head unit from there.

The front camera wiring can run behind the grill and over toward passenger side and slip into the engine bay. Once in the engine bay you can run up the front and long the side heading toward the battery. From there you can either tuck it under the cowl trim and under the door gasket -or- you can run it through the grommet behind the battery. I did the former for the camera wire, but had to go through the firewall grommet for my amplifier power cable.

What I did. Sits just inside one of the grill openings (very small camera). Can't tell it is even there and works perfect for avoiding curbs.

Thanks to both of you. Very helpful. Placing my order on Monday and look forward to a successful install. Especially motivated since my OEM headunit took a dump on the time capability when I replaced the battery in early January (after the “witching hour” of December 21st or so). I’m not alone, seems like alll Chev/GM Nav units from about 2003 til 2010 using the Nippon Denso electronics are all affected by this feature!

Default Cameras Mounted

Mounted my F/R cameras over the weekend and ran cables to the windshield (at the battery location) and to the rear quarter behind the passenger seat. Will wait to get the headunit (Kenwood Excelon DDX9905S) wired to run the cables the rest of the way. Went well, tough getting the reverse trigger wire spliced to the back up light wiring, but otherwise OK.

Front was a TopTier Pro ($18) and rear was a Nakita WD011($40) both from Amazon. Pics below. Will update when the HU is in place and everything works!!

Hi Steve, I am thinking of getting the Kenwood Excelon DDX9905S also with front and rear cams. Keep us posted on the install and review of the new head unit.

Id like a blue tooth camera I can mount somewhere behind my grill and pull up on my Iphone. Hell might as well have two so I can mount a rear camera.

Will do. Hope to have it done by or over the coming weekend.
