Default F55 shocks

I’m in need of some help. I recently purchased a 2007 c6 and had it looked at by my mechanic. He told me the shocks were leaking badly and needed to be replaced, of course I have the most expensive suspension, f55 selective ride control. So I started out looking for new ones and was shocked, no pun intended, at the price. I found on this forum a reputable member and purchased low mileage shocks for a 2012 c6. Once they were replaced and with no issues I now have a service ride control on the DIC. I don’t think I’m the first one to do this so does anyone know what I can do?

I would like to know your answer when you get one. Did you get the code that relates to the message out of the OBD II port?

It takes a more advanced code reader most likely. I had a Airbag light and the o'reillys guy said no codes...Took it to a shop and they had a more advanced Snap On code reader and could see the code.

Check this thread out first. I was told that mine were leaking- they absolutely were not.

Additionally, check out this TSB.

I am surprised that you have been on this board for 10 years and did not see numerous posts about the fact that these shocks are supposed to leak. The TSB listed in post #5 is extremely informative and I fear that your mechanic made an honest mistake when noticing the "leakage" on the shocks and assumed they were "done." Assuming your mechanic is not a Corvette specialistand therefore does not have a GM Tech II device to reset the code. You may have to go to the dealer for that. Next time search the Forum after you get a diagnosis and you might find the answer differs from what was diagnosed by your tech.

I think the problem is that 2012 F55 shocks are not "compatible" with a 2007 and that is why you are getting the DIC message. I had a 2005 with F55 and bought some 2012 F55 as replacements but the dealership said they were not compatible with the module that controlled the shocks; I trust this dealer with no hesitation and the Certified Corvette tech was who told me they were incompatible.

Hopefully the code will indicated something simple, like a connection on a shock that's not fully in place although it looks right. It takes 3 ignition cycles of an error before you get a DIC message and it's usually with a SPEED LIMITED TO 158 MPH message. Find someone in your area (not a dealer) who has a tech2 code reader, like the guy who changed your shocks. If he can't explain the code, then come back here with the number. Something like a CO585 04 code would be an open on the left rear shock and it didn't get plugged in correctly/fully. If the tech cracked/broke the connector (easy to do without prior experience) come back here and I'll tell you how to work around the problem, because GM doesn't sell them separately from the whole shock.
There is also the possibility that the F55 module in your '07 can't communicate correctly with the '12 shocks, because of the shock change in '08. Take a photo of the connector and post it here.

the shocks were bad every small bump I went over I was bottoming out, these things just didn’t have dust or a slight leak they were bleeding fluid with the fronts being the worse.

Check that the ride height sensors were re-connected, usually the tech forgets at least one.

I'd be very surprised if all 4 were bad.

Have the F55 too in my 06’’.

If it rides well on the street you’re fine.

If you want to replace, my suggestion is to simply find a Vette tuner/builder in your area and chat with him...if they’re cooked, he can save you a bunch of $$ on repacking with standard shocks. As I understand it, they also have to “trick” the computer into accepting them. 👍

linkedge540 - the 2012 MRC shocks are dual coil and your car is not and is why you are having an issue.they can be adjusted in HPTuners or with a Tech II scan tool to perform properly, but I don't recall for sure which tool was used.someone on this forum had posted a few months back what they had done to fix the issue.also if you don't have the correct torque on the nut at top of shock connector it won't come in contact properly inside of shock body and set service ride control message

Do yourself a favor...come to the forum before you go spending money like that. Chances are good they did not need replacing. There are constant threads on here about mechanics, usually at a dealer, saying the F55 shocks need to be replaced, and they absolutely did not. Often same for HB, and other things. Until you get to know your car very well, recommend you check in with any questions about replacing/repairing things.

Speaking of such things, I wonder if it rode so rough because it still had the shipping spacers in the shocks?

It’s not all that rare, I have 53000 miles on my 05 and my passenger rear f55 is drooling, others appear good. Rock auto has the shock you need about 380$

I can assure you all that my front shocks were shot, they had liquid poring out of them and every bump I hit sounded like the front end was coming out. To update this, the issue was the mechanic put the rear shocks on wrong, left was right and right was left, had it corrected and no DIC showing service ride control and what a difference the ride is. Aside from the cost to repair I don’t think I will ever have a Vette without this option. It’s a great ride over what I had before with bad shocks.
