2005 Harmonic Balancer issue?
Hello everyone,

This is a base-model ‘05 C6 Corvette. The car currently has 87k miles. I noticed that the car made a loud chirping sound when turned on. I checked the and notice that the pulley was wobbly. The noise sometimes goes away as I drive.
I use the vehicle only on the weekends & I do not push the engine hard.
I had the belt changed recently (July) as well as new pulleys, but I believe the previous mechanic made an error (Took him multiple tries to correct the issue). Initially, I thought the belt was worn (or the tension was off/bolt loose) but the belt is new and the noise continues to persist when lubricating the belt.
I’m starting to think it’s the harmonic balancer but would like to get your opinion.
Context: Garaged, Located in Los Angeles, the issue began when temp. became colder.

I couldn't see the HB very well as lighting was bad however if it's wobbling it needs to be replaced. The noise u have sounds like it could be an idler pulley or belt tensioner pulley to me these pulleys are not that expensive so if it were my car I would do the HB and the idlers all at the same time.
My opinion on parts is they are usually less expensive then towing bills. Just my 2 cents.

I’m having a similar problem on my C5. I removed the drive belt and no noise. I spun the tension idler and it seemed to be noisy. They are both cheap enough, so I’m going to replace both.

Honestly, I saw zero wobble in that video. I would replace both belts first. If it continues, I would have a local mechanic, not a Chevy dealer, look at it. If you take it to a dealer, I guarantee they will tell you it is bad....

I just replaced my tensioners, idler pulleys and belts today.
Tensioners on Rock Auto was $69.99 each and the idler pulley's were $39.99
Easy DIY. Tensioners have two bolts each and the idler pulley's are one bolt.

I had a similar issue with my LS2 , first I replaced the belt tensioner with a Katech static adjustment to remove the spring-loaded factory one which did solve alot of the noise. I also used white nail polish to paint a line across the front of the balancer to let me know if it starts to separate.

Your HB is fine (I've also got an '05). Rather than guess about noise from the pulleys, get an automotive stethoscope at any parts store (they're cheap) or use a length of garden hose to identify which pulley may be noisy instead of changing all.

Well I tend to disagree with several folks here. I think that balance your is absolutely wobbling. It's not bad yet but I'm pretty sure it's not running true.
I do agree with the part about new pulleys and tensioners at the same time. As long as you're in there, unfortunately it's an expensive job so a hundred bucks ain't going to change much.
you also said in the first post about lubricating the belt. You absolutely do not want to lubricate the belt. If you mean belt dressing? okay. But the last thing you want on that belt is lube.

The harmonic balancer doesn’t appear to have a wobble, I can tell you my 2007 had the HB wobble and it cost a grand to repair. The cost comes from 6 hours of labor as the rack has to be dropped and the sway bar. Fortunately I had a warranty that covered it.

The first 11,039 cars produced in 2005 were subject to a TSB involving the crank pulley bolt. What was pathetic is there was no recall just a TSB. If the balancer came off in the warranty period they would fix it, if it failed after the warranty period most dealers said "Thanks for playing, here is your bill"

Can't detect any wobble, whatsoever.
Betting a tensioner, IIRC bearings dry out, first sign's a racket.
Cheapest first, if belts are new replace tensioners & if noise persists then HB.
