Default M6 shifting...

Hi guys,

I take my 2013 GS out for beach runs about twice a month. I live in southern california.

Its been raining and in the 50's at night the last week or so. Last Saturday I took it out around 11am. Shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 was very difficult until the car warmed up. After that i could row through the gears effortlessly.

Has anyone else experienced this with their M6?

Thanks.

All of them are like that. You should feel them when its below freezing...Just go easy till it warms.

Have you considered changing the transmission fluid ? I have the same problem everyone else has with the M6 in cold weather. Switched to Royal Purple and there was a noticeable difference in the car. Shifted better in cold weather,,, still "notchy" but not nearly as bad and did not take nearly as long for the trans to shift normally. Yes I tried other fluids but the Royal Purple seems to be the best.

Mine does that too and just changed the trans fluid. Trans fluid seems to help with the smoothness of the gear shifts but I still get those issues when its cold. From what I've read, it is just those transmissions.

Yup, normal. Mine is like that if the ambient temp is below 60ish. The extra cooling on the trans makes it so that fluid takes a long time to warm up, 15-20 minutes of regular driving.

Do the anti venom mod, makes the shifting like butter. Here's the link.

  • c5 clutch spring
  • Venom Mod (two washers)
  • mgw shifter (better with higher effort, but turn the threaded shaft about 1/2 way out (longer) -- near perfection!)
  • "Ranger method" - big change in shifting
  • Mobile One ATF ( Dexron III spec ) - big change in shifting

All of these had a small or large affect and I think this is about the best it can get, takes about 1/2 mile and it shifts perfectly. I'm temped to try Royal Purple as most posts recommend it.
