Dealership totaled my corvette!
Monday this week I brought my 2007 base model into a chevrolet body shop to do a simple paint job on my driver side door. I was door dinged and I was in my car so I was able to pursue the other drive to pay for the damage that was done. Their insurance claimed liability so I went ahead and turned it over to the body shop to repair my door.
Yesterday I received a phone call that my car was involved in a crash in the shop. I was furious and I hung up the phone and drove straight to the dealership to see what happened.
What happened is a technician was trying to roll up the window and he went to turn on the accessary mode so he would get power. He was half in the car half out just enough to reach the start button. They had the car in reverse, keep in mind it is a 6 speed obviously. Somehow they claim to me that the car started up without the clutch activated and the car immediately got into gear and shot backwards and drove itself through the garage door and up the curb straight into the brick wall. It kept spinning the tire in the dirt until finally someone turned off the car and brought itself back onto concrete. Every single exterior panel is crack in some way and who knows what internally was damaged during the process.
I am very sad because this was my first car I have ever bought and I had many dreams to building and customizing her up. My guess is they are going to just write me a check and total the car. I will NEVER EVER go to this dealership again.

Update. My insurance company got involved and took over the whole situation. They payed me for what the car is worth and some. The whole rear end internally was damaged as well as every external panel. They deemed it as totaled and I signed over the ownership to my insurance. I did not want to have to deal with the damages that were done to it. Now my insurance will be pursuing the body shop. I am very surprised on the amount of attention this thread attracted. Holy cow. I appreciate all the comments because they were definitely entertaining Thread of the year nomination?

Unless the clutch switch had failed there is NO WAY that car will start without the clutch pushed in...
NO WAY...

Their story is HORSE ****...
Sucks about the car, but its replaceable...

Sorry for your loss here, but honestly , it does not look like a totaled type damage. Then again pictures can be deceiving.
Perfect opportunity to put a wide body kit on it and have it repaired.
Good luck with it.

My condolences and deepest sympathy.
Get on spacebook and twatter and post a warning to other vette owners of their **** up and post a pic. This should motivate them to make it right ASAP.

You break it, you buy it. No way I’d settle for that car back. The negative publicity for the dealership will cost more than them cutting you a check for the car. Accept nothing less.

Yeah, like the dealership would give him a brand new $50k+ car to replace a 12 year old used car worth half or less.

It is what it is, and now you get to go shopping for another Vet if that is what you want again.
Myself, would take it as an omen for the Audi R8-V10 that I think is going to be my vet replacement.
Hell, I remember the phone call when Firestone manage to drop my Eddie Bauer Bronco off their lift to do major damage, and my response was just hope you like it at perfect full retail value, since that is the amount your going to be handing me in a check to resolve the problem (which their insurance company did).
Hence on a vet when repaired, the amount that you get hit on resale is so much, that it has to be added into the final repair costs; which often drives the overall repair costs up to the point that it just totaled isntead.

It's more than just the value of the car. It's complete negligence on their part. If it went to court, a good lawyer could get more than the cost of a new car after "pain and suffering" are factored in. So think I'm crazy if you want.
