I use a this method. 3 Zip ties in an H pattern. One around the base, one around the removable connector and one around and under the two you just installed. Pull the first two tight and then the third and it will pull the connectors together. That will last at least a several years or more.

this is what I was initially looking at. It would just involve cutting the old one off and splicing the new one in, right? Is soldering required for the splice?

Here's more than you ever wanted to know about just one small part of the electrical connectors on our vehicles:

I did the same thing on my previous car. You can buy the new plugs an make a tool to remove the pins. I used a small piece of wire an hammered it flat, sanded it to shape an it worked great. Slides in between plastic housing an pin an pin backs right out.

Pull the pins out of the factory plugs(lots of tutorials on youtube how to do this) and insert into new plugs from the link I posted before to Ballenger Motorsports.

duct(k) tape & bailing wire. I still have some of each on hand. if you need just a quick 'A to B" fix, your options are endless.
add JB weld to mix and you have no excuses for not getting home.
all of these have saved me over the years.
not elegant, but that's not the point.

I replaced a pigtail on my '98 Z/28 ( LS1 ). a little solder & shrink wrap and your done!
after looking for over a month the find the problem. while the insulation still looked good ( not split or having any exposed wiring ),
one of wires was bent and looking like a kinked garden hose. after over 300k miles, the wiring had separated internally.
easy fix for you!
