Default Fuel Rail Cover Replacement

Hi Rocket Riders !!!
Just received a new set of Fuel Rail Covers for my 2013 427 Vert . They are painted to match the car in Crystal Red . The fuel line passes through the cover on the Drivers side and there is a slit in the cover but it appears too narrow to install the cover without damaging the finish,
I am looking into removing the fuel line to install the new cover. My question relates to the fuel line . Where the line bends towards the firewall there is what appears to be some sort of clip connector. Does that just lift off the line ? then how do I break the line apart so I can thread it through the Cover ? Any other thoughts to help will be appreciated .

Thanks in advance for the knowledge and experience accumulated on the Forum but most of all the willingness to share.

You can get the tool to disconnect the fuel line, or do what I did with my C5. I put painters tape on the both side edges of that slit and was able to install that cover without any damage. Jus go slow. There is enough give in the cover to get the fuel line in between the two edges.

You don't need to disconnect the fuel line (unless you just want to).

Yes, that slit is narrower than the fuel line, but if you push on one side of the slit, and pull on the other side of the slit, you can then slide the fuel line through the slit you widened by twisting it in that area.

Simple ....

As others have noted, not necessary to disconnect the fuel line, but to make the job easier, use a hair dryer to warm the area around the slit in the fuel rail cover. That will soften the material slightly & make is easier to bend & pass the fuel line thru. Also as others noted, tape the edges of the slit.

Thanks everyone for the educational replies ….. I will try the duck tape and hair dryer approach.

Don't use duct tape...use a painters tape. Duct tape will leave a residue

Run the engine until the plastic covers get hot enough and then you will be able to work it out.

I have the disconnect tool, couple bucks at the parts store. I paid too much to have them painted to scratch or chip the paint.

I had my fuel rail covers professionally painted and to avoid scratching them, I carefully placed towels around the cover and a single microfiber towel around the fuel line, and bought the fuel line tool and disconnected the fuel line and carefully removed the fuel line through the hole. No scratch. Just be patient.

Let's see some photos. Even if it's before the install.

As noted.....just use masking tape....but use three layers. Those rough lines can grate through a single layer of tape. Take your time and be careful. Here is how mine turned out.....used the masking tape approach. I put some on both the line and the edge of the rail cover.

Buy this $5 tool from advance auto (3/8 size - blue plastic) , remove fuel pump fuse and crank engine to release fuel line pressure (pointing to yellow 10a fuse). Have a rag handy to soak up the little bit of fuel that's left in the line when you disconnect it. reconnect when done - 5 to 10 minute job tops!

Have painted ones on my 13 427 too. Didn't use a tool or need to disconnect anything. Used a cloth around the holes to protect the paint, the wife (get a buddy if you don't have a wife) to pull up on one side and push down on the other, and just slid it on. No issues at all. Done in two minutes.

I've been wondering what white covers would look like, first time I've seen a picture of them. Have they stayed arctic white, no yellowing form the heat?

They're actually not all white. The tops are the same blue as the stripes on the car, white on the sides. Yes, they've stayed white. Been on for about 5 years now. We got them from RPI. This is the second set because the first set bubbled up from engine heat . But they replaced them for me, and zero problems since. Of course, mine say LS7 and I added the 427 emblems.

I had a hard time trying to disconnect with the tool and then just decided to flex open the slot in the cover. I used the painters tape to protect from scratches.
I would make sure it is warm enough so that the plastic will flex and will not crack .
