You're a quart low. luckily the DIC allerted. No need to drive it or warm it up, just check the dip stick cold and level.

You might be burning oil or the last joint that changed just didn't fill it. Stay attentive and check it fairly often now until you determine that

Agree. When I had my C5 Z06, it was near 100K miles and the oil level did not drop at all between oil changes.

Certain LS engines with Active Fuel Management were pretty common to lose a quart of oil every 1000 miles but this was because of a faulty oil pressure release valve.

But most LS engines do not burn or use oil.

The amount of oil the dry sumps took changed from 9qt to 10.5 qts and many dont know that... not sure when it changed, but you being 1.5 qts low is pretty suspecy.

Aren't dry sumps confined to manual tranny Grand Sport coupes, Z06s, and ZR1s? I don't think the OP has ever told us his 2010 is one of those. If not, his car should only hold 6.0 quarts of oil.

Check for the common oil pan gasket as it could be leaking .

Right, my car is a base. No dry sump for me!

If it's not overly complicated to explain, could you elaborate on what a lifter failure is?

Thank you!

And the dry-sumps have no ability to measure oil Level and display a message on the DIC.

The oil up to temp, shut off, and wait 5-20 minutes is only for the dry sump.

Yep, it did get confusing there, till I went back, and realized you have a wet sump.

Any wet sump engine can be checked cold or hot. I think hot is recommended but it really doesn't make any difference.

With a cold engine the stick is cleaner and doesn't have oil slopped all over it above the high mark, making it maybe harder to read.

This.

The difference on a wet sump when checking cold or warm is negligible, unlike a dry-sump.

The OP was definitely low.

I've read my way through this entire thread and see a possible similarity to what I ran into in 2017 in the first full year of ownership of our 2007 C6 that has the Z51 performance package with an air to oil engine oil cooler. When we acquired the car it had less than 2,000 miles on the engine oil verified by the service invoice from a GM dealer that serviced the car. I put about 3,000 miles on the car that summer and didn't notice the oil level go down any noticeable amount. I did my own oil change in the fall before putting the car into storage having put in 6 quarts of 5W30 Mobil1 with a new filter and found the oil level to be just slightly below the full line after running and warming up to check for leaks. Taking the car out for one more run before putting it into storage I was on the freeway when my low engine oil level alarm and DIC display alerted me that my oil level was low. I pulled over and checked my dipstick and was surprised to find the oil level still within the hash marks and just slightly below down 1/2 and that was sufficient to trigger the low oil level sensor. I added another 1/2 quart that turned off the low oil warning and it didn't come on again or go down any noticeable amount the following season.

Thanks for the recount of your experience! A key difference between our situations, though, is that I think my car's oil level was much lower than yours. The Check Oil Level message indeed appeared, but I was below all three holes on the dipstick!!

That is the way I've checked my oil for 60 + years same with the 02 in my rubber...The OP needs a E-Car if he can't read a dipstick....

I like checking the oil when cold...................and black. Pull the stick, wipe clean and insert. Then pull it out and check the oil level. Why cold? If there is oil in the dip stick tube from running minutes before it will mess up your reading making it hard to actually see the real level in some cases. I've had some pretty messed up vehicles where the tube takes a few ungodly bends, 24"+ long stick, and some where it's a real pita to insert the dip stick as it wants to spin around fighting you as it's being pushed in. (Fords) The dip stick routing on today's vehicles is nothing like the old straight shot with a 15" stick like on the old SBC's.
As far as your low oil level, I'm betting the last one to change the oil shorted you. Top it off and then keep an eye on the level. That's if you don't see any wet spots.
