Dreaded Nav Clock issue caused by dealer. Looking for Recourse
Took my 2008 c6 in for a leaky master cylinder slave and clutch replacement. They disconnected the battery for the work and when I received the car after repairs the Nav clock was not working.
The dealer said is known issue and they don't have a fix. Their engineers are working on one but they don't have an ETA. This is not a acceptable answer. They broke it and want me to accept it.
Anyone know how to escalate this? Or find a way to resolve?
Thanks

Lol. Call GM to open a ticket and sit back and wait. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...isconnect.html

Not the dealers fault.
+1 for disconnecting the battery before working on the car.
See other thread...GM is working on it.
Appears to be a software upgraded will be needed based on a change to GPS satellites.
Cadillac and other makes are experiencing the same issue.

I get why you would be pissed, not having the clock anymore. On the other hand, this problem has been discussed multiple times on this forum, so lots of folks know and knew about it for some time. Now that it's happened, the dealer can't do anything about it until 'someone' comes up with a firmware fix, short of sourcing and installing a 2011+ NAV unit. The chances of the dealer doing that at their nickel are pretty slim, and that may be just a temporary fix, because the actual rollover date for the GPS date is April 6, 2019. Maybe the 2011+ NAV units will puke then.
The currently affected cars will have been in service for 10 years or more. Lots of cars don't last that long, so the dealer probably sees way fewer of those, especially with NAV units. What would you have said if you were given a choice between having the repairs done and not having the clock afterwards? If it was a safety matter, I doubt if the dealer would have done the work without disconnecting the battery. Just my .02.

Just get a nice aftermarket head unit put in, better sound, better nav....better everything!

Take a minute, read your own post. Step back and ask yourself what you would like them to do? They didn’t say they WOULDN’T fix it, they said they CAN’T fix it and they’re working on a solution. Seriously what would you have them do?

I've had a few older GPS units stop working after changes *somewhere in the chain* over the years making them nothing more than paperweights. Generally the only solution was to buy a new one but that's not that big a deal since new units come with newer and better features, more memory, etc. If this is truly a problem, that's a compelling reason to simply buy a new head unit (some of the ones from Kenwood, for example, are really nice and full-featured.)
If the older GM units return to full functionality, then I guess that's OK but a new aftermarket unit would be my choice anyway.
