Default Both of my Key FOBs are missin.....*freaking out*

My C6Z 2008 is my DD. Fortunately I am off from work this week due to the college where I work being closed, so I'm not in a bind.

Both Key FOBs are missing and I don't know where or how it happened as I am a creature of habit and put my main FOB in the same spot every time I take it out of my pocket.

Anyway, if I go to the dealer to get one, can they program it using info from the VIN so I can at least get into my car?

Yes, they will be able to sell you fobs and program them. Fobs may have to be special ordered since they may not have them in stock

No, they cannot program it using info from the vin. You will need to buy the fob and they can cut the key using vin info which will get you into the car but you will have to program it yourself.

The dealer can also program it for you for a fee once the key is cut.

However, this will entail a tow to the dealer.

This ^^^^^^ You need the car to program the FOB’s. Dealer will need the VIN as well as proof of ownership to cut the key.

You’ll find them. As my mother used to say “well, they didn’t just get up an walk away (except for that one time, when I lost my dog).

Slowly look in every place in/around your house that you visit most often. Especially look where you normally take your pants off.

As soon as you quit looking for it you'll find it..... I lost one in the car once.... I left it sitting in passenger seat and I had to stop quickly. It and some papers I had in the seat went to the floor. The fob was nowhere to be found.... It was the second fob so I didn't miss it right away...Thought it was gone forever. After many hours and hundreds of new original profane words I found it. It hit the carpert in the floor and bounced up near the firewall under the dash and settled UNDER the carpet right above to door in the floor with all the fuses.. Another suggestion and they work well....TILE.

good luck

It's the car that gets programmed to the fob(s), not the other way around. So whoever does the programming will need the car.

The car can be programmed to recognize up to four fobs. If I were going through all this hassle, I'd spend a little more and buy all four. Put one in your safe deposit box.

And everything is locked in the car. I can get the insurance info off my phone, though.

While the experts give you advice on how to get a new FOB programmed, let me pick your brain from California. Here's where I'd find my keys after a few days off: backpack, lunchbox, workbench, on top of fridge in garage, table where mail/bills gather, junk drawer in kitchen, behind the coffee maker, in jacket pocket, in pants pocket inside of clothes hamper, under the bed or nightstand, next to my shoes in the closet, golf bag, outside by pool equipment. You know we always find them in the last place we look!

I lost mine once. Looked everywhere for it. Retraced my steps , still no good. I was walking up the driveway from the back yard and saw it in the yard. It had fallen out of my pocket while in the garage . My lab picked it up off the floor and took it into the yard to chew. It had a few tooth marks but still worked. LOL.

This can't help you with your current problem but could save you the headache of ever having to deal with this issue again. I have the pre 2008 fob that doesn't have the internal key, my key is attached to the fob with a ring. I thought it was dumb having the key and fob together since if you lose or misplace the fob you've lost any hope of getting in the car. My wife and I both have a key to the Corvette (a plain GMC logo key) on our key rings with all of our other keys. A dealer will cut you a key for about $12 and proof of ownership. One of the fobs that came with our car was beat up so I bought a new one and did the long program assigning the old beat up one as #3 I then wrapped it in foil so the car couldn't detect it and hid it in the car. If I lose the fob I still have a key on my key ring and can get in the car to retrieve #3 fob.

Probably not at the same time. My guess is that the OP has only had one fob for some time, and it finally caught up to him.

I found Keyfob #2. It doesn't work, but I'll get into the car today, set the alarm off, and put the fob in the slot in the glove box and reprogram the car to it. Still can't find #1.

Change the battery in the fob first, and try it. The car doesn't forget the fob either, so there should be no need to reprogram it yet, unless you want it to be #1.

Already did that this morning, but the fob itself wouldn't open the car.
