Default Question for those with a Scosche Magic Mount for their cell phones.

I looked at ProClip and it appears to work best with the Oliv magnetic mount. My issue is I don't want the bump on the back of my cell case.

Looking at Scosche the have a pic showing the magnet installed between the phone and the case. Is it strong enough??

I don't want to buy something and have the phone fall out!

Thanks!!

Been using that Scosche for years. My phone has never fallen off even while autocrossing.

The mount is magnetic. The steel plate goes in between the phone/case. Some cases have the steel plate embedded it in as well.

I have that very mount. Works great. Have the base mounted to the right side of console about radio face level. But, I mounted the mag plate on the outside of my phone case with the sticky back and has held up over a year now. Had it on inside between phone back and case but didn't have quite the strength like that. Would move and sag under certain driving conditions. Maybe my phone is heavier than others. LGK30 and is bigger than my kids iphones or wifes older Android LG.

Actual weight of your phone will determine where to put mag plate.
For the heck of it I just weighed my phone, case and plate and it totals 9 oz.

I have my magnet mounted to the phone and covered by the case. Can't see the magnet and it is very strong when attached to the mount. No problem at all and 1/5th the price of Pro Clip.

The kit comes with two magnets. Use the bigger one and you will not have a problem with it under your case.
I will post a Pic of my mount below with and without the phone.

If one ever needed to, how would one remove it without damaging the dash or wherever it was mounted? The 3M automotive tape is pretty tough stuff.

I have been using this mount for years on several cars. When I sell a car, I just use a plastic pry tool and pop it off. No residue and never any damage to the dash.

Have Schoshes in our CUV and Proclips in my Camaro & Corvette. It depends on the case as to how well the Schoshe works with the metal plate mounted between the phone & case; my wife's phone has a thin case and they work great, I have a full-body rugged case and they don't work well at all. In order to get the phone to stay, I have to tilt the mount back to a 45 degree or better angle; even at that, on long trips the vibration will cause the phone to slowly start to slip down and I have to constantly readjust it. Personally, although they cost a little more, I prefer the ProClip mounts. I got mine years ago with the universal/adjustable clip; they have worked great through a few phone upgrades and several case changes.

I have Schoshe magnet mounts in 3 cars. The window/dash suction cup is great, and can be removed over and over. I grab it when I travel and rent a car. Easy to clean the base for a sticky surface. Fantastic product. In one of the cars, I have the wireless schoshe charger. The magnet is between my phone and otterbox. It sticks well, but I do think having the magnet on the back of the case has best results for a better charge. You should know that you can buy new magnets (for non-wireless) for new cases for a few bucks. I bought 4 for around 12 bucks and have extras now.

Just know if you use a wireless charger the metal plate will interfere with it. I had to put the plate down low in the case for the charger to work. Works good but if I take a hard corner the phone spins 180*

I have the magnetic mount in the exam same place as HBSurfer. Love it. I also have it on my baja truck as well and holds up great. Only time my phone fell off was when I was smashing through the whoops in Mojave at 60mph. The Vette will never see those kind of jolts.

My girl just installed the same mount in her car, and put the magnet between the case and phone (instead of outside). Phone wouldn't stay on (she used the large magnet too). The case was just too thick. I recommend putting it on the outside of the case. I have my magnet on the back of my case, and while it might be considered an "eyesore," it is TOTALLY worth it. LOVE this mount. Especially at $11 Amazon Prime, you just can't lose.

I have the $10 Amazon version with the black circle metal plate on the outside of my case (can hardly even tell it's not part of the case). Phone hasn't fallen off yet in 18 months.

It is a Travel Buddy duel cup holder; I have them in my Corvette & Camaro and really like them, so does my wife. You can get them from several different on line sources. I got mine from RPI Designs: https://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1057
