Thanks for the insight guys....ive got this 2008 c6 z51 manual that has served me so well. Looks mint. Drives like new and has a manual transmission. This thing is so utterly reliable and ive put on 131k miles...i really dont have any reason to sell it and its worth very little. I think its like 15 grand? Its crazy....to even bother to sell it....but there is no parking on the street here...i only have a two car garage ...and since my wife cant drive a stick..just juggling 3 cars around would be ridiculous.

i have been enthusastically reading about the c8 and it seems pricing will be around 62 grand plus another 5 or 6 grand for the z51 mrc fe4 option...so give or take 70 large..

then the launch is july 18 th with deliveries starting around the end of the year....so since im not on a list yet i was thinking a delivery around may of 2020 sounds logical...

then Ive been reading how gm might offer as much as 25 percent off of 2019 corvettes...so I thought 82 grand for a c7 z06 with 650 hp and a manual for 62 grand sounds like a hell of a deal too...

i had promised myself a few years back i would finally be smart after buying three new corvettes over the past 20 years and just buy a preowned corvette the mext time around but...but if the new c7 z06s are running at 69 grand now and possibly as low as 64 grand with GM s rumored 25 percent off.......why buy a preowned 2015 c7 z06 for 60 grand?

then i say to myself...wtf why even drop all that coin ...your current c6 is running flawless and still looks brand new...the car is stunning ...

just curious if any of you guys were contemplating the same things...

should we wait a year or two for the first year hysteria of the c8 to subside? ALthough i tend to think the c8 pricing will mimic the c4 where every year the prices jumped quite a bit so any discount eventually offered is nonsense....although the first year bug issue could be annoying...

my first sports car back in the late 1970s was a turbocharged rme lancia scorpion and I thought it might be interesting to retrace that rme driving experience again...

at 60 years old this year i thought maybe I should treat myself..

I would be going the other direction on this. my first choice would be a C3 ( '68 - '72 )
I really like the early c3s as well - from a cool factor/visual perspective. However, for me it would have to be resto-modded with a complete and balanced performance upgrade to the suspension, brakes, wheels and tires.

I don't mind the idea of a visceral experience in a toy car, but I'd definitely want it to handle and stop well.

A restomod c3 (or c2 if they get cheaper) is on my list of potential next toys. I would love a ls6, 6 speed, modern brakes and suspension, and a few modern toys in a chrome bumper c3. Would probably black out the chrome, but I prefer those bumpers to the rubber ones.

Nope. I'm about done with old cars, more fun to look at than drive and work on. Not enough time, money, or space for that. If I win Powerball that would be a different story, and the old cars would be in addition to, not replacements for, more modern vehicles.

Am I the only person happy with what I have? A c6z06? I don’t aspire to anything else, it checks all the boxes for me....and at what it’s sales value is, it’s not worth selling anyway.

i agree, if I had the money, then I could indulge in my dream C3 ride.
I also would not have be 100% stock. on paper though, I would like and, do miss the old school engines.
working on those taught more than about cars, then any of the newer current offerings.
new tires & brakes a must.
I still remember riding in a co-workers '69, 427ci, 4spd, side pipe ( about 25 years ago )..
It was scary as hell, but you can't replicate the sound or feel of that now.
that is the main reason I would have a hard time with a Tesla now. no soul.

Still like and enjoy my C6, esthetically, comfort and performance wise. Have driven a few C7s now and have no interest in owning one; love the performance, not a fan of the overall looks and cabin is to confining IMO. Waiting to see and drive the C8 before making a decision as to whether or not one will be added to the stable.

So I think you may want to take the advice from someone who has owned both. I currently have a 2005 and I just sold (two weeks ago) a 2014 Z51.

Now Im certain, that since Im in the C6 section, Im going to get blasted for this statement - but its true. There is ZERO...and I mean ZERO comparison to the C6 to the C7...PERIOD. The C7 is superior in almost every way. Better leather, better performance, better steering, better handling, better looking, more advanced design and technology. Anyone who says the C6 is "better" than a C7 has NEVER owned a C7. Just driving around with your buddy in his C7, isn't the same as owning one. Now you may like the LOOKS of a C6 better than a C7 - that's 100% personal preference and no one can argue what you prefer - but no one can argue that the C7 is light years ahead of ALL previous generations...including the C6.

Jerri - If you can find a C7 that is within your budget and has the options that you want - dont hesitate - grab it - I promise you, in about 2 weeks you will send me a PM thanking me for this post...

Is your 05 a Z51?

I’m done with new Vettes after owning a C4, C5 & currently a 13 GS. Even the current $3k loyalty rebate does nothing for me since I’m not a C7 fan. I took advantage of the loyalty rebate in 2013 with $12300 off my 1LT GS. You can give me $20k off a C7 and I’ll pass. No interest in a C8. Can u imagine the bugs in this all new car? Plus all the idiots who will pay 10 to 20k over sticker just to be a guinnea pig for GMs new experiment.

One approach would be to wait for the C8 to become available. Check out the reviews, Touch one. Drive one. If you like it you could go for it, but I dunno...first year cars seem to be the ones people avoid. Maybe you'll decide to wait. Even if you decide you don't like the C8 you'll probably be able to pick up a lightly used C7 for a good deal. It might also take a while for that new C7 supply to drain off.

No comment about the C8 ... In fact, other than the C8 being a mid-engine sports car, we really know nothing about the C8 since it has not even been revealed yet.

And, as far as the C7 is concerned, I am not going to sell my C6 just to buy a later model C7 ... In fact, I think my C6 with 19,000 miles on it will outrun the majority of the C7s driving around my neighborhood ...

I've owned a '15 Z51 Stingray Coupe and a '16 Z06 coupe, and I prefer my 427 vert and it isn't even close. The C7 is the "better" car as you would expect with 9 years of evolution and R&D, but I personally prefer the analog gauges, ant the interior and exterior styling of the C6, especially in vert form. C7 interior is a little cramped for me at 270 lbs, and my personal opinion is they made it a little too cockpit/video game like for my taste. Kinda felt like I was back in a C4. The stingray was only marginally faster than other LS3 cars I've owned and while the Z06 is a monster, it is almost impossible to see any of its powerband on the street without being a complete jackass. The A8 in the C7 is terrible so opt for the M7 trans.

My 427 is the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. More than enough power for the street and way better throttle response than the SC LT4. All this to say if you find a C7 you want and you can get a great deal, jump on it as they are awesome cars too, but I would also consider a C6 Z06, 427 or ZR1 as well. As for the C8, that is still a waiting game for me. I'm sure I'll eventually stable one, but not until GM starts putting rebates on them. I can handle not being the first one to have the new model, but I can't handle $10K-$20K immediate depreciation because I had to be the first to get a C8.

GS982 ...

Nice looking house, and a very nice set of 4 Corvettes, but, I have to ask ...

I see a 3-car garage but 4 Corvettes .... Which one of these Vettes get the humiliation of having to be parked outside, while the other 3 stay happy and clean in the garage ?

Maybe there not all yours ?

I have a 4 post lift so the '70 Stingray lives up in the air most of the time. I only had the 4 vettes for a couple of months. I traded the Z06 for an '18 ZL1 vert, and my buddy had been after my '96 GS for the 2 years I had owned it. Once I got my 427, I told him he could buy it. A decision I regret immensely, but I don't really have time to enjoy or maintain 4 cars. The 427 and '70 I see as forever cars. The ZL1 will eventually end up getting traded on another fun car in the future, possibly a C8.

I have had Corvettes for about the last 25 years. My current Grand Sport is the best I have ever owned, it's a great car and I really enjoy it. But for me, it will be replaced by none of the choices mentioned. When my current projects are completed (9 second 67 Valiant for NHRA racing, and a 37 VL Harley for Bonneville) I will sell my 2011 Grand Sport and use the proceeds to fund my next project, a Factory Five Daytona Coupe, that will be built primarily for land speed racing.

I'm happy with my C6 M6 Z51 for now. I still haven't warmed up to the C7, it has better materials and mechanicals but the edgey style just doesn't do it for me. We'll see how the C8 looks in July, if I like it it's still going to be a least 5 years before buying a good used one. By that time I figure I'll be ready for an Auto anyway.
