Default 3LZ Leather Dash - Rip off the leather entirely

I was thinking. I have a 2009 3LZ and the leather dash is delaminating. I was thinking rather than finding a base model dash, I would just rip off the leather entirely. Is the 3LZ dash the same as the 1LZ dash just covered with leather? I have a feeling the airbag portion with the Corvette letters are different. Also, what would i use to clean off the glue residue?

Anybody can chime in on this?

Why not just fix it at that point?

They dont take a base dash and glue the leather over top of it if that's what you're thinking. The base dash has a similar top layer that is glued on, it's just vinyl instead of leather.

I would look into getting the dash repaired vs tearing it off, I think that you would have a mess on your hands doing that

Fairly common. Just fix it...

I heard that some people got it fixed and after a year or two, it started to delaminate again.

I also heard some people removed the windshield. I heard that this is not a good because the original rigidity of your car will be affected.

A friend has an 08 4LT with the original dash in perfect condition. My 13 GS 4LT also is perfect.

If you leave the car out in the sun a lot especially after treating it with "protectant" than you are screwed. I always used a damp cloth to clean it.

that’s exactly what they do. Although the vinyl underneath is slightly different, such as no corvette wording. The leather is glued to vinyl, not directly to the Fiberglas dashboard. I know this to be factual because of specific experience with this scenario. You can buy replacement leather dash cover on eBay for under $500 although I could only find black/ebony with multiple choices of stitching colour.

Excellent advice on using protectant. Damp cloth or mild soap ( Murphy's) .

Wonder if using one of those shiny foil window shades when you park, or tinting the entire windshield would help slow the process? Mine doesn’t have any issue, but I’ll just pull my dash and take it to a refinishing place if it happens. Just thinking about options to help slow the progression

I would think that any method for reducing the direct rays of the sun through that expansive glass area would help. If anyone has sat their backside on black convertible seats after being exposed to hot sun with the top down can quickly identify. Having on shorts makes the experience even more exciting.

To help my dash and exposed rear, I had LLumar UV Protection Clear Window Tint applied to the windshield.
If I am away from the 427 for any extended period of time while I am out and about the top comes up and I use a Weathertech Sun Shade.

For us female drivers who drive in nothing but a sundress and rear end floss the experience is beyond exciting and borders painful.
I cover my dark blue seats with these (in light grey) when I am out of the car for a short while, the Florida sun can bake uncovered seats in 30 minutes.
