Question: How many catalytic converters dose the 2012 LS3 Corvettes have? 2 or 4 cats? My Corvette was originally purchased in Florida and I understand that only California Corvettes come with 4 cats, true or false?

The forum reports that there were 4 catalytic converters starting in 2012. Mine definitely has 4.

After looking some pics I have of the underneath of my car I can confirms it have two cats as i say it’s a 2011 non Cali car

There was a voluntary emissions exhaust recall for 2008 and 2009 base corvettes. This recall replaced the existing catalytic converters with the addition of two smaller catalytic converters at the mid pipe (4 total). However, in CA the recall was mandatory in order to register for DMV renewal.

Mike...you said the recall replaced the converters. I believe all it did was add two converters that are dead, i.e., not hooked up. Originals remained. Correct?

I have a 2008 and had the recall done. We checked the outgoing cats for clogging, mine were good, but GM wanted the old ones back. The reason for the recall was for main catalytic converter failures. So, four new catalytic converters, two main and the two additional at the mid pipe that are not monitored by o2 sensors. They also flashed the ECM with a new tune that does not change any performance parameters.

So with 2012-2013 models would a cat back system be good to remove the back two cats, especially if they don't have sensors? Or would it make any difference performance wise?

Sounds like a similar setup as my 2015 Camaro. It had 4 cats, 2 larger ones and then a smaller one right behind it.

On the 2012-13 cars the second set of cats is in the H-pipe so a cat back system is not going to remove them. And they do have O2 sensors to monitor them. I went with long tube headers in my 2012 GS with the catted X-pipe so I only have 2 cats now.

The simplest way to remove them would be an aftermarket X-pipe meant for the stock exhaust or a 2011 H-pipe as that wont have any cats.
