Default Cabin smells sour when a/c is running

Not too sure what’s making it smell bad but I pulled the plastic off the passenger side a/c blower and did not see a filter for the cabin. I have a leather air freshener on the mirror. Any ideas?

Cabin filter is accessed from the engine bay. Turn off the ac, put it on hottest temp and turn the fan to highest to cook off and blow off old moisture. Do that for at least 15-20 minutes while driving. That should help.

AC Delco CF-139 cabin filter, turn air on high with filter removed spray a lot of Lysol into filter housing this will kill the mold.
moisture sits in there and turns rank. One thing about a dry heat out here I don't have that issue to bad.

Don't they say to do that at the end of a drive when the air conditioner was on? Not that I will ever remember to do it,..

I bought a new filter last year from, you guessed it,
Amazon. Amazon.

It was $13.31 then, I see it's gone up a bit.

EDIT: Eh, BMF was ahead of me.

It is not the filter. You need to have the AFTERBLOW feature enabled at your dealer. This will allow the fan to dry out the a/c system and prevent mold from growing. No more smell. Google C6 afterblow.

Well checked filter and was dirty but no mold or anything just leaves and dust. But I could smell the sour smell when open.. maybe I should spray Lysol in the filter housing while a/c is running.

Have felt with this several times on numerous vehicles. As others have said, replace the cabin filter. The cabin filter is a catch all for all kinds of nasty stuff. Next make sure the evaporator box drain is open. it is a black rubber udder looking drain that is under the passenger compartment and accessible from under the car. If the smell persists there is an evaporator box cleaner that you can spray in the the box that kills the bacteria and mold that may be causing the smell. I believe that automotive repair shops offer this service if you don't feel comfortable drilling a small hole in the evaporator box to insert the cleaners discharge tube. In addition to these options Autogeek has a couple of sprays that kill mold and bacteria you introduce into the fresh air intake. OBTW I hate the Lysol option, it will smell like Lysol for days.

I worked in GM dealer service for a lot of years and you can't imagine how many different things we tried over the years for this problem. The cores in the older cars were stood up so the water drained off better. When the size of cars started changing most went to laying the cores on their sides and the water just sits there. Water, heat, plus junk in the air and you have mold. Good luck!
Like I said.

Ok I have looked and can not find the drain. I let it idle for about 10 minutes and no water drained or dropped so figuring it is plugged. Any pictures or anything of the drain location

Just letting it idle for 10 minutes probably wouldn't discharge much or any water -- depending on local weather conditions.

I'm flying blind here, but mine drains on the garage floor after coming in after a drive during hot weather, and the puddle is on the passenger side (as already mentioned) just behind the front wheel. So the hose would be thereabouts under the car.

If there is no puddle under the car after sitting for ten minutes after a 5-10 mile drive with the AC cranking, then the hose is likely plugged. Could be dirt, insects, etc.

Going to take it for a drive and see what comes about and if any water drips after the ride. It’s about 75-80 degrees in south Texas will check it out thank you

If the drain is plugged then the condensation has collected in the evaporator box causing the box and coil to be contaminated with mold. If this the case you would need to take it to a good auto shop or dealer and have them use the BG evaporator cleaner foam in the box. No amount of spray in the fresh air intake will clean the coil.
I do not have the car up in the aorta get a pic of the drain or I would send it to you, sorry.
