Default OBD2 tool to read codes

What is your favorite and why....I 'm thinking of buying one..I used the Innova 3040 over the weekend and was not impressed...I do want one with the definitions and helps built in...

How much do you want to spend ? I do agree with you, I don't care for the Innova either. I really did like my Actron that I had years ago, but I am not sure if they have the "code tips" you want. If you want it just for your older OBD II car, check CL or Ebay for an out of date Snap On. The updates are very expensive, but you could find one that is a few years out of date that covers your car pretty cheaply.

Looking to spend <150 ish......Need to read up to date also, well at least to 2012.. There are so many out there hard to pick.

Check out the Harbor Freight Zurich line of scan tools, they have several models most of which are < $150.

Years ago I had an OTC, it was fantastic. Sold it, now I wish I didn't. Not sure if they still make it.

For like $20, you can pick up a bluetooth OBD-II scanner and Torque (Pro) for your phone. Great for reading codes.

^^^This is what I use. Once you have the code Google will quickly answer any questions you could possibly have including how to fix the issue. Why would anyone pay more than $20?
