Default 10mm Spacer on Base C6

Hey Folks,
Looking for input if anyone is running a 10mm spacer on the rear using stock bolts?

Also, does anyone know if this is safe or not? I know it’s better to change the bolts, but this isn’t an option for me, so it’s stock bolts with no spacer if it’s not safe.

Thanks,
Jeff

I wouldn't do it. You will loose 50% of your thread engagement. You can get extended length lug nuts, but even with those I would not feel safe. I run 1/2" spacers on my GS .... but I changed to longer high strength ARP studs. It's a little bit of work but well worth the peace of mind.

I’ve got 15mm on the drivers side, which had its own studs... and 7mm on the right. Got 6 full turns of engagement. Evens out the offset and brings the stockers just inside of rubbing with my lowered base 08. No worries

The SAE and most racing associations minimum thread engagement is that the length of thread engaged is equal to the diameter of the bolt/stud. In the case of a C6, it requires 8 full turns of the lugnut. Since the stock wheels barely exceed the minimum, any spacer requires different lugnuts or longer studs.

I'm running SIGNATURE Forged Wheels and wanting to use a 5mm Spacer on Rear Left....

I need to count my turns with and without spacer ?????

Also need to learn whats involved in installing longer studs ??

It's a spec by SAE and most racing organizations that the length of thread engagement be at least equal to the diameter of the stud. The studs on a C6 are 12 mm diameter and the thread pitch is 1.5, which means for every full turn of the lugnut, it engages 1.5 mm of stud length. i.e. 8 turns equals 12 mm length of engagement for the 12 mm stud.
NHRA prefers open ended lugnuts to visibly verify the stud shows, since you can't see the thread engagement on closed end studs
Stock wheels with stock studs and stock lugnuts always have the correct engagement, although most only meet the minimum.

Soooooo..................I have a 5mm spacer behind my Left Rear SIGNATURE and counted 5 1/2 turn sof Thread Engagement
vs 8+ Threads on the other three corners with NO spacer

Would have like to use GORILLA Extended Thread 23311 Lug Nuts but holes in these SIGNATURE Wheels
are too small for extended portion to fit (Gorilla would fit .0625 Holes on OE Wheels)

I would not trust 5.5 turns. I would worry with every corner I took. Preferred is 1.5 x the stud dia .... = 12 turns. MIN = stud dia = 8 turns. I changed out all my studs to ARP high strength extended length for peace of mind.

Thera P, Could you direct me to page with specifics on
removing hubs and changing studs.....

Are you still using enclosed acorn nuts and now using
open ended lug nuts ???

You need to remove the hubs to change the studs. Not difficult, but takes time. Worth it for me. I use open logs with plastic caps.
