Default C6 battery shut off- battery drains when sitting

Deer corvetteforum,

I really love this form. Being around all these Corvette enthusiasts is simply awesome.

Is there a battery cable that easily replaces the factory with the ability to shut off the circuit on the negative cable? I have been disconnecting it everytime I store it, which is quite often. I have worn out my negative battery cable which now needs to be replaced. I might as well replace it with a cable that has a shut off.

Thanks

John

I know this doesn't answer your question but is it possible for you to use a battery tender when you store it? It would be a much better solution.

Agree with this reply. You can even get a quick connect for the battery tender so that you can just pop the hood and plug one connector and it will take it from there. Of course, that requires you to have power to wherever you are storing the car.

To answer the OP's specific question, Check Summit Racing, Rock Auto and other similar suppliers for "Battery shut off". The cut off switch attaches to the battery terminal and has a simple on/off round **** to actuate. Easy install but the battery tender would be a better way to go.

They sell battery shut off switches all over the place. My concern would be that these cars are finicky enough electrically and the added resistance of the switch (especially over time) would cause problems.

The car would think the battery has been removed so you would need to relearn all the presets. Use a battery tender instead.

Only preset lost will be time and window index.

The battery switches with the round **** are to small for our for our battery connector to grip.

PM sent ( and I"m trying to get the whole pic between that and this post I just saw), but a "trickle charger " is not the right tool for this; a battery tender is.

Since you have a 2005, simply parking it in R may resolve your problem, depending on how often you use your car (and battery age).

This is what works for me. I have a 2005 and I can let it sit for a couple of weeks and there is no problem as long as I put it in R when I park it.

I have an 05 and the car won't let me walk away without putting it in reverse. Also, I live in Georgia, I can drive it year round so I just suck it up and make sure I take a ride every 7 to 10 days. Life is hard and you do what you gotta do!
