Default My new 2008 C6

I successfully made the trip and picked up my new C6 - 2008 Victory Red 6MT, 3LT, Z51, NPP, 63K miles, two tops, cammed, intake, headers, xpipe, short throw shifter and tune for 466rwhp documented on dyno sheet. Its more power than I was shopping for, but the owner made me a really good deal. The car has a few items that need to be addressed and I started today.

1. Battery was on its last legs and replaced it today with AutoCraft gold battery from Advanced Auto Parts with coupon for $144,
2. Bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S from Discount Tire on their Memorial Day sales. Tires will be here and installed after next Tuesday. Plan on doing alignment after new tires are on.
3. Removed a set of wheels that had been attached to front skid plates to help roll over bumps and such. It seems like they also lowered the clearance about another inch or so and there was still a fair amount of scratches under the front air dam - so not sure how effective they were. Easy to put back on if y'all think they truly help.
4. I tried to open the glove box not knowing it was locked and broke the latch right off....(yes, I'm that strong! lol) I will need to read up on how to fix it.
5. Oil change coming up soon - any suggestions?
6. I haven't driven manual in a few years, and working the short throw shifter, Callaway I believe, has been a little challenging - is that just me and I'll get used to it?
7. Interior mats and carpets need a good shampooing. May possibly replace the mats. Lloyds?

And here is she is, another red Corvette lol: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4FwgiwTGk2YuzqYRA

Yup, I'd recognize it anywhere.......that IS a red Corvette!

Congrats! Enjoy the ride.

You're asking for oil change recommendations? Not much to talk about. Mobil 1 oil and their filters are good too.

Depending on how much you know about the car's maintenance, I suggest changing all the fluids right away; brake fluid, coolant, clutch fluid, trans fluid and maybe differential fluid.

Here's a link to DIY clutch fluid maintenance and changing referred to as the "Ranger Method". Expect to do it many times at first then fairly frequently depending on how much you drive:

Congrats on the sharp looking vette.

Keep the little wheels of the front skid plate, you'll end up doing more damage if they hit something than if they are off. You'll get use to taking inclines slower and speed bumps.

As mentioned above stick with the Mobil 1 and if the fluids haven't been changed out yet, now would be a good time.

Speed Safe.

Thanks. I recall reading that before here and it prompted me to remove them.

Congrats!

I personally use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with a WIX oil filter. I suggest going with either a MGW short throw or a T-mod customs (seller on the forums here). I also just got a set of the same tires you ordered and had a alignment done. Look up the PFADT alignment sheet and go with their preferred street setting. It will give you much better tire life and performance.

Very Nice!!!!!

Here's my 2 cents ---- I would recommend (based on my 05 Mn6):
  • change the oil 5w-30 (I use Mobile 1 ) new filter (Mobile 1 again for me) - ANY high quality of both is fine.
  • change the transmission oil - Optional change differential with AC DELCO fluid ONLY.
  • MGW shifter with the stem adjusted fairly tall w/Venom mod to transmission
  • change clutch fluid - (if No bleeder ) Ranger method w/o clutch pumping every two weeks until nearly clean after the two week interval.
  • check the HB every six months if you see a small wiggle the first time you inspect it. (mine as not changed since I first checked it.)
  • new Belts for the HB
  • When driving on a rough road, if the HUD wiggles you're going to need a new one in a year or so. (do your Homework now)
  • Replace coolant. Look at the insides of the coolant tank, if there is any crud then definitely replace coolant
  • Flush brakes.

@ 52K I put in a new clutch and hydraulics - because of a seized pilot bearing.

All of this over 2 years and now my 'vette feels brand new. YMMV as they say, but this is what I would do (except the clutch, of course). I do 100% of my work on the 'vette. If you are going to have this all done it could run into a few bucks so shop around and read the forums for details and recommendations.

Oh .... and let me add

Yes Lloyd mats .... consider black ... I have cashmere interior and black mats, IMHO, look awesome.

Short shifter .... I like MGW as I mentioned, but someone on the forums mentioned to quit shifting "old school" and because of the narrow gates just push and pull the shifter. That also made a huge difference for me.

Doing a little research looks like Callaway, MGW, Hinson all have positive reviews about feel and function. Since I haven't driven manual in about 15 years I'm thinking it's me. The more I've been driving it the better I'm getting so I think I'm gonna keep it as is for now and check one of the others out at the next local Corvette meet up.

Thanks for the heads up on the the alignment settings.

Would love to see a picture of your mats.

I think your advice on the shifter technique is spot on. I'll work on that my next time out.

The initial fear is beginning to wear off and starting to drive it like it's supposed to be. Man what a kick!
