Default The Corvette price experts are crawling....

out of the woodwork! I just came back from the local weekly car gathering sponsored by a Winnipeg restaurant chain. I have a For Sale sign on the window of my 08 roadster. No price, just for sale, the original price plus upgrades, and a phone number. "Yep", the old guy says (bear in mind, I'm 64) prices (of used Vettes) are going down" and makes a dramatic wave with his hand which reminds me of a ski hill. He never even asked me for a price! So I said, "well, this car is a third of the price of a new C8, and C8's don't come in a convertible. This car fills a totally different market." Then, in semi-disgust, I walked away. Just the DIFFERENCE in taxes would be $8K! And, it is only going to get worse as far as everyman experts go. Thank goodness I love my roadster, and if it doesn't sell, well and good!

Maybe instead of having people guess or beg for more info, you could be a better seller and add your asking price and odometer reading to your sign.

I can't see the point of putting up a sign if you don't show the price. What do you do if someone says, "How much?" Ask them to guess? Ask them to make an offer? I am seriously curious.

It's your show, you run it how you want, but maybe he made an assumption about your feelings, and commented based on that.

When I was 13, my parents put our house up for sale. They did not state a price. I told them that made no sense. They were used to my direct attitude, and said they wanted people to see it first. They got no offers.

Hahaha...well, since I am almost 69, it is a moot point. They sold it 15 years later, and retired to northern California. My Dad always wanted to get top dollar for everything, even if it took several years to get it. I always want to sell something when I decide to sell it, as I am buying something better to replace it. He and I never argued about that issue, though we argued over almost everything else.

I don't believe this is a definitive yet. Just speculation. Unless I have missed an announcement. There have even been some renderings of a hardtop convertible that folds up behind the seats, and I guess in front of the engine. Some how.

A number of cars were for sale tonight. Not a one had a price. Could be a cultural thing up here. Cell phone number prominent. Just pick up the phone and call. Everyone up here has one, or two. But yeah, I can do that next time, add the price. You didn't address my point, though. You talked around it. Thanks.

Can you explain that sentence? It seems to contradict itself.

If Im reading it right, I think he's saying he did not list an asking price, but did list what the car cost him, and what extras have been spent on it, so people could see what it cost him.

Which is stupid and pointless. AT risk of coming across as rude, I dont give a **** what the current owner paid for something, whether he got ripped off or got a bargain is his business, Im only interested in what they want in order to part with it, so I can decide whether that fits with what I want to spend.

I also assume (like most people) that something that doesnt have an asking price isnt really for sale.

Seems like OP wants to be deliberately vague about asking price, then complain when people make comments about it.

Sorry, but I would probably make a smart *** comment to you as well if I saw a for sale sign and what you posted. It makes no sense to do that at all. I can see if you actually posted a price and then posted what you paid and spent in upgrades to show what a bargain (that you think) they are getting.

As an American, I agree about the asking price thing. Here if you dont put an asking price that means you likely want too much money.

Had the guy made a comment like that to me, I would have likely said something about how even broke ******** with their heads up their *** like him might have a chance to buy one someday.

The real irony is the dude is DEAD WRONG.

I've seen things listed "for sale" with no price listed, maybe the seller is trying to start a dialogue, get a conversation going and eventually get around to the price. Someone walks by and sees $35K listed and thinks "that's way too high", someone walks by and likes the car, the color, the mods and starts talking to the seller, gets a little history, gets a feel for the seller, then maybe $35K doesn't seem that high. It gives the seller an opportunity to talk about the car which he might not get if a potential buyer would just dismiss by price. JMHO...

If the price for an item is not displayed I never bother to enquire as I figure it's so dang high the guy is embarrassed to post it.

That's because you didn't make a point, Ellie. You complained about a guy making a silly comment about cars. What is the discussion going to be..."yeah, I guess he did say that"...?

And, since you DID NOT STATE A PRICE, that subject is not open for discussion.

You did not state your personal opinion about why or why not C6 prices will drop quickly, so, again, no discussion in my view.

I guess if there was a point there, I would agree that the "old guy" was a jerk, and doesn't know what he is talking about. Is that better???
