is it the car or radar detector
happened yet again!
c6 top down and suddenly have a sheriff tailing me, turning right along as i do..
35 mph, staying in my lane, not even touching white nor yellow lines, complete stops, turn signals.
but he followed me right up to my residence.
i am not paranoid-i once had one do the same to me and just before he decided to turn he
finally zapped me blasting my radar detector
if they scan my plate they have to know i'm clean. are they ticked because of having a radar detector
( a few miles before it had alerted me about a speed trap hiding in the woods!)

You are wrong. Police can run your tags at any time for any reason. The tags fall under "plain view doctrine", which means objects in plain view do not constitute a search.

It’s the car. Used to happen in my mustang often. As long as you don’t do anything wrong they leave you alone.

I have some close friends on the force here in NY. and they run them all the time, at will, with the excuse being "because I can". lol

A long time ago was driving home late at night in my daily driver. It had a radar detector. Stopped at a light. Cop stopped right behind me. He obviously saw the blinking red light ip by my visor. All of a sudden the detector exploded in sound and light. I looked in my mirror and both cops were laughing their asses off. I waved to them. They waved back. Just having a little fun.

The only state I know of where a radar detector is illegal is in Virginia.
If your not in Virginia, you have all the right in the world to operate a radar detector.

Typical cop, sees a fast car, tailgates you and hopes you screw up. I've had it happen to me.
I was driving my old Camaro. I was being tailgated by bright lights at night in my mirror, I switch lanes, tailgater does the same, I switch back and then red light comes on and he pulls me over. He said I changed lanes to quickly (not 100 ft). I said he was tailgating with bright lights in my mirror and driving provocatively by following my lane change. He admitted that he thought I was a kid and was trying to get a reaction. I got really pissed when he gave me a warning ticket. I was thinking about making a complaint. The Mrs talked me out of it. I am still pissed to this day.
Yeah the cop is trolling you.
Same thing happened to the young woman in Texas that died in jail. The cop tailgated her, she pulled over to let him go but instead cop pulled her over "not signalling". Cop lost his cool during the stop and arrested her.

I've had radar detectors in all my cars (and some motorcycles) for 40 years, most cops don't give them a second glance.

I have had it happen a few times in both the Corvettes I've owned, as well as my Camaro; it's definitely not the detector, never had one.
As far as running plates, have a few friends in law enforcement, as already stated, license plates are 'in plain view' and they can run them any time they want.

This happens to me from time to time but I never let it get to me. This weekend, fairly early in the morning, I had a cop follow me through a strict 25 MPH area. I always do 5 over, everywhere. So I did my natural 30MPH and was swerving all over the road to avoid potholes. He didn't do a thing.
Just drive like normal and you'll be fine. When you slow way to down and make it obvious you're sweatin' him... gives them more reason to be suspicious.

It's called F'ing with you. It's not personal, and likely not the radar detector. May be just seeing what you will do, maybe they don't care. Cops get bored sometimes too.

I'd say a few things: first, yes, they're just playing w. you because it's a Vette, and maybe he saw or got a read on the RD.
Second, there are 50 states and how many police-legal jurisdictions within each state? 100? more? that means, law or no law, who is going to argue, "You have no legal right to run a ck on my license plate when I was doing nothing!" Answer: no one. It'd have to be a reverse sting, meaning, a group that is trying to catch whatever law enforcement agency doing such a thing. It may be the law somewhere, but it's virtually unenforceable.
Finally, it can be nerve-rattling, but I'd say just try to get used to it. Fact is, many or an awful lot of police agencies don't like RDs. Period. And if those are the ones that catch you for speeding, or some other major/minor infraction, AND see one in your car, things don't usually go very well. Before all the critics stop by, I am certain there are numerous exceptions to what I just wrote. But I go to, and through many states every year but only have hit 49 and the big Canada to the north. And I would say this is mostly correct---the law enforcement people do not like cars or any other vehicle with RDs in them. IMO. And I'm from the only state that bans them, not the only place tho.
