Having left my keys in the car (once again) since I can tell you that it only chimes (fast chimes, multiple times) if the keys are actually in it. It's all in the details. Just FYI.

That's only when you get back in. When you exit, shut the door with the fob(s) in the car, it will give three honks (if fob left in vehicle alert enabled).

@owc6 My car doesn't do that, it must be in the options. Luckily, I tend to only leave them in the car when I'm at home. The chimes however, would have alerted me to the fact that while I was able to open the door, the keys weren't inside.

This happened to me. I got home around midnight, pulled in the drive way to open gate, car stalled. 08 convertible w/ windows up, top down. Door handle not working/ no power to car? Forgot about emergency floor door handle, I just got out over tonneau cover, slid off car. Went to get other FOB to try, same result. Except this time on the way down, sliding off car, I spun and landed bad, braking my ankle! It has been 6 weeks since, just now able to start walking! Very avoidable, but dumb things happen! Those who haven't had this issue, should learn proper exit methods. Just now able to "laugh" at myself.

In a panic I would grab my 45 under the seat and, well I know how to get out.
