Default parking in reverse manual transmission q

So i had my 2011 GS towed to the dealer for the clutch master cyl failure issue (10,400 miles) they covered it 100% minus towing even though it was out of warranty. But the service tech told me something interesting, he said that i should be parking the car with the gear shift in reverse because that insures all the power is shut off to all the electronics. I could find nothing about this in the manual, is he full of crap? or is this a real thing?

NO! That service tech didn't know what he was talking about. That's only for the 05s.

They did not do anything special by covering the repair, GM extended the warranty on the MC to 10/120,000 or something like that.

That's only because of the gear ratio. On the 05 C6 with manual tranny, it's for shutting off the electrical system completely.

Dumb question, what exactly does putting an 05 in reverse do differently than 06-13 ? I know it shuts everything down, but does it close a switch or what ?

There are 2 reverse switches in the 05 transmission, one for back up lights, and one for shutting the system down.. 06 up only has one switch...WW

I have an 08 manual, and always park it in reverse in case the E-brake fails.

Why would you try to park an automatic C6 in reverse ? You couldn’t even shut the car down in reverse. Title of thread. :flag

It is in the 2007 manual pg 105. Section Titled "Parking your vehicle (Manual Transmission)"
Before you get out of your vehicle, move the shift
lever into REVERSE (R) and firmly apply the
parking brake. Once the shift lever has been
placed into REVERSE (R) with the clutch pedal
pressed in, you can turn the ignition off and
release the clutch

Yes, it is in the entire C6 OM, but the problem was solved in '06.

It has caused no end of confusion, and has come up more than occasionally.

Reading many of the comments here makes me shake my head. Hard to believe many of you have nothing better to do than act like bitchy teenagers. Damned Russians are screwing with us, getting us to attack each other over trivial ****, and here it is on CF. Not sure it is worth staying here much longer.
