I'm thinking the emblem just above the plate represents the 'theater' he/she was in regarding the military service. That would disqualify the veterinarian.

Jesus...that's embarrassing(Vet or Veterinarian)..but I suppose it can be confused by someone who has zero military aptitude ..they are out there among us "VETS"..USMC Semper Fi.. oh...I like the plate..but only allowed 6 letters/digits in Oregon..unless the law has been changed.. go ahead and flame me..I can handle it..
