What is wrong with people?
This is driving me absolutely crazy--no pun intended. I just don't understand why people have to park RIGHT NEXT to my car no matter how desolate the parking lot is.
On Monday, I stopped by Costco after work to pick up contacts from the optical department. The parking lot is fairly full so I park out in BFE where there are no other cars. I am in the store about 20 minutes and when I come out there's a POS Hyundai parked right next to me. There are at least 30 empty spots, but this guy has to park there?
I stopped by Market Street (grocery store) Tuesday after work and parked out in the middle of nowhere with no cars in the area. I come out and there's a Silverado parked right next to me. It would have been just as easy to skip a spot, but not for this person.
This morning, I stop by a bagel place to grab breakfast on the way to work and parked along a back row that had no other cars. I come out and there's a Honda Accord parked right next to me--there are at least 10 other empty spots!
I think I am going to start leaving this on the windshields of the cars...

As many others have said before in similar posts "parking next to you they won't have to worry about you door dinging them." It does get under my skin when it happens to me though.

I had a guy do that at Walmart the other day..I was way out...come out to see him purposely pulling in beside me straddling the two spaces lengthwise in his POS work truck

I don't see what the hell the big deal is, and why people get their panties up in a twist about it. I'd much rather park next to a Vette than a Kia, Ford, Subaru, Volvo......

it's a public parking lot.

Considering all the open space they could have parked nose-to-nose if they just HAD to park next to me. Or skipped a spot... Or parked in any of the other 30 open spots surrounding me... Or picked someone else with a much nicer car...

My DD is not something you would want next to your 'vette. But if I see a 'vette parked by itself I will park next to it because at least I'm protecting one side of it. ( Its one of those pay it forward things. )

FWIW, I have been parking my cars at the end of parking lots for 45 years. They have always been special to me, even when I was driving a Pinto. I still park my cars away from others because I love my cars. Always have. Many cars that you would consider to be a "POS" may be a big deal to the person who owns it. I never am bothered when somebody parks near me at the end of a parking lot. I just assume it is another car guy.

I understand the issue of not wanting to take the chance of getting door dings, but if you drive your car to a shopping center to start with, it is a public parking lot. I believe two things cause people to park next to a Corvette that is isolated from the rest of the cars and that is 1. They also feel safe parked out there and being next to a Corvette you will be careful not to cause any damage to their car and 2. they just want to say, Hay you are not that special.
These post come up every few weeks or so. Some with pictures. Never understood why some get so upset at this. If you are that concerned don't go to public parking lots with your Vette.

Not worth getting upset over unless you actually get door'd. I always scout out an end spot and back in so the passenger side is isolated. If someone parks to my left then I just tell myself it's another car guy protecting my other flank.

People do this to me all the time. I now just park on the end spaces and push over to the side with no adjacent space leaving a bunch of extra on the side where somebody may park.
And don't worry, you arn't alone in that. I have the same thing happen to me for parking at work and it weirds me out.

I guess I should have looked for other posts like this instead of starting an entirely new one.

Corvettes are not public parking lot cars. It's bad enough when people park next to you, but what's worse, is when a cart gets pushed out of the way by another driver, and rams into yours. Or when someone backs up from the adjoining lane into the front or rear of your car. The mentality of the other driver is, I just tapped your bumper, no big deal! I don't use my car to go shopping, unless my wife is waiting in the car. Somehow, magically, the car never seems to get touched that way, and no one dare park next to it!

There appears to be some amount of research done on this, and there are a couple of reasons why people would do this based on their having been asked why they did it:
1) The 'herd' mentality (feel safer)
2) It's easier to line up their car if they have a reference (i.e. they have no feel for the dimensions of their car and can't park very well)
3) The more expensive car is more likely to get broken into
4) Passive aggression, knowing that it's a free way to irritate you because you think having the vette makes you special
Personally, I try to find a spot further away, because families with kids tend to park closer to the entrances. Kids are the worst for flinging open doors without regard to what the door might hit. Also, I don't mind the free exercise.
