Default Stock A4 trans reliability versus stock A6?

I'm looking to buy my first C6 and think I would prefer the A6. I have read many posts here regarding the strength and capabilities of each after tuning and rebuilding but- am I worrying too much since this will only be a weekend cruiser??? I want to find the lowest miles reasonable for the price and there alot of nice 05's out there but want to hear opinions on the reliability of a stock A4 that will not be raced. Thanks

The '05' has the same transmission that the C5 had for years. Very reliable and can be built in many ways after engine work. Mine has been great. As far as buying a cruiser/touring C6 I don't think you can go wrong with the A4.

Unless you are planning to make big hp over stock, they're the same. If you're planning to make big hp over stock, the 05 has it's own issues.

I would definitely buy an A6 over an A4 if both were in budget.

My 05 does not have paddle shifters, what's your preference? My 05 has been very reliable, I would definitely like the paddle shifters.

Bottom Line .....

Like everyone else has said here in the past .... Buy the latest year model C6 you can afford that has fairly low miles on it.

I would shoot for the LS3 at a minimum 2008+.

The 05 4L65E had a lot of upgrades to it compared to previous 4L60 and is the strongest auto transmission ever put in any year of C6

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like either will be fine for light use in stock form.

I have 78,000+ reliable miles on 2005 Corvette A4 with 3.15 gears. This transmission is a tried and true with reliable history. I didn't want to get the first year of the A6 in 2006 when I ordered this Corvette.
