Default What is This? Help to get out of car

A friend got a C6 and it has this thingy in the door jamb. A place to lean on when you get out of the car.
Does anyone know what it is called, and how to get them?

Hmm, I hadn't seen one before. Could be very handy as we age or have health/weight issues.
I'd be interesting in learning about them too. Hopefully someone can help us out.

Do you manually place it in the door jam when getting in or out? I'm assuming so, either that or it retracts into the lower part of that panel. Can't see the door closing with that placed there?

That's what I was thinking. Does the door close with that in place?

I've seen a generic handle type on the internet.. Those simply fits on the door jamb latch, and are removable.

They are called Auto Assist Grab Bars. They are approx $15.00

You will have ask your friend where he got his. It looks like it folds up and stores, rather having to install and remove like the handle type.

My friend says they were in the car when she bought it used. She thought they were a normal part of the car.
They stay in the car and the door closes with them in.
Looks like they slide into place.

As someone holding off on getting a knee replacement done I want to hear more about this.

I'm interested as I catch myself yanking or pushing on the steering column.

I use the 'U' part of the lock on the door jam of my other cars (C6 doesn't have on the jam) ...would be interesting to see what this is

See if there is a name or part number on it. I have googled several different terms and keep coming up empty.

Ditto... my curiosity is aroused. I'm usually pretty good and finding items on the interwebs but so far I'm batting zero on this one.

And these don't work at all for the C6 or c7, because the latch/loop is reversed compared to the average car.
