Are there ANY other new cars with pop-up headlights?
This is tangential to C6 discussion, but I don't know where else to ask.
With the demise of the Firebird, I can't think of a single car on the market, other than Corvette, with "pop-up" or "concealed" headlights. Am I just forgetting something?
This is neither an argument for or against pop-ups on the C6. One side could argue they're an anachronism, the other could argue they make Corvette unique.
I just want to know if I'm wrong. Is the Vette the last car with pop-ups?

The 456 Replacement will not have Pop Up lights. Also one reason that a lot of companies are shying away from Pop Ups is the cost involved with motors and manufacturing. With the new light technology it seems not make sense to have Pop Ups. The argument could be they make the Corvette unique.

Another exotic: The current iteration of the Lotus Esprit still has pop-up headlights.

:mad No, I don't think so. All the car companies including Ferrari are puzzing out and following the stupid trend of glassing over lame looking bullit lights in hundreds of different configurations with tacky chrome bezels. :D Whew, what a run on sentence. Did anybody check out how they totally basterdized the NSX. I think it all started when Mitsubishi RICED out the previously nice looking 3000GT and Stealth. UGLY. Set trends, don't follow. :nono:

Of all the things I dislike about my Vette (very few), the headlights top the list. I am glad they are changing it. To me they look out dated and when they get older one stays open (or both do) and they look soooo stupid. :U

I agree that the current headlight trend SUCKS. Did I mention that it sucks? Because it sucks. Cars look like insects -- not the cool bug-like aliens of science fiction, but awkward bulbous multi-eyed things in your home and garden that you crush under your heel or swat with a phone book just to put them out of their hideous misery.
Current headlights are big ugly bespectacled bug-eyed nasty cancerous growths befouling the automotive landscape.
Surround my small projector bulbs with paint and bodywork, please, not busy-bee bezels and yards of glass.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Re: Are there ANY other new cars with pop-up headlights? (pnbarbee)
*shrug* Popups were neat back in the day, but I would prefer the car without. The rest of the current Corvette is a pretty derivitive sports car design anyway. It seems to take as much of its design heritage from the best of Italy (Pininfarina and Bertone) - not a bad thing, mind you. But keeping the popups just to seperate it from the rest of the pack would be weak. It would be better if the car as a whole was original in shape and function. Uniquely American - much like the C3 was. The Vette hasn't had a truly original shape since Harley Earl died IMO.
Besides complexity, i.e., one more thing to break, they add unnecessary weight. Being an advocate of the "Add Lightness" crowd, I'm all for taking the opportunity to shave a couple of pounds here, a couple there... But I'm also for dumping the heated seats, power windows, door locks, etc... I suspect the C6 will end up heavier than the 5 popups or not.

2000 Innotech Mysterro
2002 Mazda RX-7 Spirit R
Mosler Raptor
Ferrari 456 GT
Plenty more exist, but aren't currently in production. Those include the Porsche 928, Ferrari Testarossa, Jaguar XJ220, and many old cars from the '60 and '70s.
Yeah, that's just about it.
