Alternate shock absorber removal ?
My 2006 Corvette Shop Manual includes the above steps to neutralize a shock for safe disposal. If I were to drill the holes in the old shock while still in my C6, with safety precautions, would this allow me to slip out the front shocks WITHOUT zip ties, or WITHOUT disconnecting the upper control arm? Other than some oil on my face and clothes, what could go wrong ? ? ?

IDK, if it were me I'd zip tie & call it a day.
Conventionally removing one try puncturing tube where/when it's under some kind of control, like held firmly in a vise.
If it isn't pressurized, then do other 3 if so inclined.
Bet it'd be a mess, though.

I've removed shocks twice on my C6. Never have I drilled to remove the oil. As above, I kept them zip tied, and threw them into the metal dumpster at a local Tire/ shock shop that allows people to bring used shocks and tires to their shop, even if they were not purchased there.
They also take used oil as well.

Is it dangerous to leave shocks laying around? I have the dampers recently off my Cobalt in my automotive scrap pile outside. I need to clean up.
