Recently, after driving my ‘05 for 30 minutes, it feels like I have a caliper slightly dragging. When I come to a stop, the car stops just a little too quickly, and will hold on a slight downgrade with no pedal. Also, the pedal pressure is right at the top of the travel and somewhat harder than usual. I suspect a valve in the EBCM is sticking. I know it is not a parking brake or caliper issue as these components have all been replaced in the past month.
Has anyone experienced these symptoms?
is there a reliable rebuild rebuilder out there or should I just bite the bullet and go for a new unit?
Thanks
If it just started and you didn't have the problem before the parts replacement, you might start there. Sticky caliper, parking brake adjustment, stuff like that.
The parking brake is self adjusting. If the adjusters were not backed off when new shoes were installed, the brakes will drag.
Nope, and although the lever assembly does have a way to take up some excess slack in the cable system, the E shoes do not have an auto adjuster on them and they have to be gap sect manualy instead.
As for caliper dragging, when you do a break job, you need to clean and regrease the link pins as well as the bracket channels as well.
Pin 6's in channel 10's. In some cases, the pins may be peen to hell, and need to be replaced isntead.

My first thought would be the flexible hoses from the frame to the brake caliper collapse on the inside and act like a check valve keeping pressure in the caliper. I would start by replacing them.

all the flex hoses are almost new and braided.
I've had the flexible lines do what you described to several vehicles so that would have been my first choice. If they're known to be good, I don't know what else could cause it. They can cause all the pedal symptoms you described. I guess I've had the same when a master cylinder has failed and locked up, but it's been so long since I had one of those die I just don't recall exactly what happened there. If the EBCM can be at fault, that doesn't sound like fun. I have zero understanding of how they work internally. Should be easy enough to find one from someone like Vettenuts if you can't get a new one. Good luck.
