Default Splitter

Not a owner yet. Still looking and learning. Question on the splitter.
Does it serve a purpose other than looks
does it direct air flow or something
if it is dragging all the time do any of you guys remove it and run without it
sorry if its a stupid question. Just the way us newbies are.
thanks
still looking.

My understanding is that its functional. Ive heard that if you use the Zr1 splitter and run high speeds ( 120+) you need the extra bracing or the splitter will actually pull the nose down due to all the downforce.

A splitter improves front end grip, by increasing downforce and (more accurately) reducing lift. If you removed it, you'd have holes under your bumper and it'd be unsightly.

What typically drags it the scraper under the car. It's job is twofold, 1) alert you before you damage something expensive and 2) reduce lift under the car. Typically people just replace them when needed, they're like $100 or so?

i had a carbon fiber on mine. Took it off. Always scraping. Can't see the holes as they're under the bumper.

What tends to happen with the splitter is you pull up to a curb or something and the splitter is low enough to hit it and can crack if it's carbon fiber or fiberglass. The plastic ones will bend more before they actually break. My factory plastic splitter, I can tell the previous owner may have had this happen a time or two as one corner sort of bent a little bit. I've got a new fiberglass body color painted splitter coming that may hang down only slightly lower than stock but will stick out further. I just have to be careful when pulling up to things that I could hit. When you hear a scrape, it's usually the front air dam that hangs down behind the splitter. I've had this happen a couple of times when entering or exiting steep driveways or lot entrances. You have to get on the ground and look under to even see the air dam - it doesn't really show going down the road. But if/when it breaks/cracks, it's an easy, fairly cheap replacement. It is possible for the splitter to hit or drag on even steeper entrances - you just have to be mindful of it. It can help to enter at an angle.

Oh, and it is a functional part for ground force and to reduce the air flowing under the car but at "legal" speeds, it really isn't doing much for you - no more than the rear spoiler is doing.
