Default New to C6

I have just joined the community, and am looking at acquiring a C6 Grand Sport 2012 or 2013. Recommendations on where to get the most info before my purchase would be greatly appreciated. Looking at available options from those years, and what came with what packages. Thank you, in advance.

Download the order guide. That will give you all the options that were available.

Welcome to the forum. There is plenty of great info on here, you can use the search function to answer most of your questions. As the owner of a 13GS I think you are looking at the right car.

Don't limit yourself to a certain year. Finding a nice Grand Sport will be hard enough and there's some cherries out there in all years. Take your time. It took me a year to get exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a 2010 with under 50000. I bought a 2007 with less than 20000.

Welcome, and whatever you do, if you are buying from dealership ask for service checklist filled out before it was sent on the lot for sale, for his recommendation that the dealership didn't want to spend.

If private, invest in a service check to make sure you are getting no hidden expenses down the road.

I purchased my 2012 Grand Sport from a GM (not Chevy) dealer a year ago next month. It had a little over 13k on it and was in like new condition in almost every way. If you haven't done so already, educate yourself on the various trim level packages that were basically the same on all corvettes, not just Grand Sport - 1LT, 2LT, etc. That will give you a good idea of what options are included and the information is easily found online or even on this forum. Shopping for one and evaluating each one is not much different than any other used vehicle. It seems the one thing you should look for, more than anything else, is whether or not it has a harmonic balancer wobble. That's a fairly common issue that can be fixed but you'd want to consider the cost of doing so in any deal you make. The HB issue is widely covered in many threads on this forum. Other than that, mileage and service history are big considerations but that's no different than any used car. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the heads up on the Harmonic Balancer. I run two garages in Myrtle Beach, so getting the work done that the dealer didn't want to do should not be that big of a deal. I'd rather know the quirks to look out for ahead of time, though. It's one reason I'm looking at the Grand Sport versus a Z06. Thanks, again, for everyone's help so far.

One factor to be aware of with the GS (and Z06/ZR1) is the lack of tire choices. AFAIK, there is only 1 A/S option, and only ~5 different choices overall.

So, for the most part, I plan on the GS being my daily driver.(I typically drive less than 60 miles a day.) It may see the drag strip or track. Is the Dry Sump THAT much of a difference? I think I read that the manual comes with a differential cooler, too. Thanks, again.

All manual GS coupes are dry sump, the main benefit of which is no oil starvation under high G cornering. The DS system also uses 10.5 qts vs 6 in a wet sump LS3. If you are going to DD the car be aware that most (if not all) summer compound tires should not be used under ~45 deg.

You're in the right place, don't rush into anything and make sure you buy one with 3 pedals.

Didn’t make a Grand Sport before 2010, so he has to limit himself by “certain years” if he wants a Grand Sport.

Ah,73DBG, but if I was looking at a C4, there was a Grand Sport, AND I don't have limitless funds to look at an original C3 Grand Sport. But I know what you mean.
