C6 Column Lock issue
Hello,
My 2005 Corvette was having issues with the Column Lock and it would not start. Thanks for my post 3 years ago in this forum, I was recommended to get a bypass. It fixed the problem until 2 weeks ago. The reading of the Column Lock service came back on and would not start. i replaced it and worked but it was inconsistent. I decided to take it to a reputable Corvette Specialist and get it over with.
The tech says he can not get the replacement parts to get rid of the problem and assures me that he has been talking to the GMC part manufacturers. A week after and no luck.
I need some advice/help or point me to the right direction for an alternatives since it seems my car has no hope for repair.....
I will appreciate your great feedback.

Ditto, since your tech should know that there is a new software flash that takes the steering lock, and even the steering lock module out of play if he has been talking to GM.
The short bus, steering wheel is pulled to change the locking plate out to one that will not lock the steering, then BCM firmware is re-flashed with update software so its no longer looking/working with the SCLM. Hence no need for either new steering lock, nor new SLCM module, since they are just taking out of play while left in the car. As for dealer, about $400 to swap out the locking plate, and the flash the car.
So your Corvette Specialist, is not so special, since this GM firmware flash and locking plate has been out for around 2 years now.
Hence what is his main line of work, re-treading tires?

Thank you. I guess I went to the wrong shop and this guy is not getting new technology updates since he specializes in Corvettes.
Now, does it have to be a Corvette dealer or any Chevrolet dealer?
I really appreciate your info

Kind of a GM dealer thing, since shop will need a SPS account to do the firmware reflash via Ac Delco TDS.
If you were local to me, we could be done with it in about 30 mins. Hence pull the lock ring to just covert it on the lathe to non locking, and since I have SPS, would take a few mins to reflash the BCM for free as well.
Hence lock plate looks like this,
And just need to remove the outer section that has the U slots in it to match the new plate that does not lock.
