If you have a cement floor in your garage, I would imagine that a good coating of some kind would be a great help, but it sure won't last forever.
In my case, I have a 3-car garage that I installed porcelain tile down about 8 years ago. It's been great and so far, no cracks or broken tiles (porcelain tiles are thicker and much harder / stronger than ceramic tiles)
Easy to clean too, but can be slippery if wet ...

Retired & lovin' it!
I had the garage floor done professionally in epoxy when we first bought the house.....lots easier when the space was totally clear. Ten years later & the finish is like new....super easy to keep clean. These are 'before' & 'after' pics....

In my garage I went with a Polyaspartic product. It is a hybrid material that resembles polyurethane. I did the color chips in a gray and white mix. Installed professionally....the garage was new construction and I had a vapor barrier installed under the concrete floor. On any of these products, proper surface prep is critical along with ensuring your floor moisture is not too high. Here are a couple of pics followed by a comparison of polyaspartic versus epoxy I found on a commercial website. The only thing I noted in comparison write ups to be concerned about was battery acid...the polyaspartic is more sensative to it than the epoxy, other than that, it is deemed to be tougher. Mine has been down now for over two years and still looks brand new. Total transparency: I don't really do much in the way of significant mechanic work in this garage. Yes I would use this product again. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I have an epoxy floor and it holds up well to chemicals and such, but i have caused a few chips dropping some sharp tools, starters, etc. It looks amazing and I get tons of compliments on it. It is slippery when wet, especially coming in on a motorcycle when during rainstorms.
