Default 2012 GS Manual Shifting Isdues

2012 GS with 6,500 having shifting Issues. It will not shift into 2nd, 3rd or 5th under power. Will only shift into 1st, 4th and 6th under power. Will shift into all gears when turned off. The service engine light is on. Any thoughts? It is not the 1-4 shift function. I know how that works. Thanks!

You need to see what codes are registered in the car. Start there. Post codes here would help.

Try this:
  • Engine running
  • Car stopped with the parking brake engaged

Are you able to hold in the clutch pedal and row through all 6 gears?

Would do a ranger clutch bleed, since it could just be that the fluid in the clutch system is dirty/humidity soaked, and the clutch slave is not driving the all the way to fully disengage the clutch with a pedal push.

Also if new to you and ranger clutch bleed does not solve the problem, bank that is had a after market shifter, was pulled out and the oem shifter put back in before sold, but OEM shifter was not either indexed correctly, or rear coupling nut was not tightened correctly (35ftbls torque) and has come loss. If after market shifter, could be the same as well, and just need to re-index the shifter.
Note,If car does not have a MGI shifter, now would be the good time to install one, since either way, your going to need to get to the shifter assembly to check the index, and make sure that the rear shifter assembly coupler is still tight.

Default Thanks for the helpful ideas

Had to replace the skip shift solenoid. It was bad!
