Default Gas tanks

Has anyone had problems withe their fuel sending unit? My 2007 goes to empty when I fill it then starts working correctly a few minutes later. Does anyone else have this problem. Is it an easy fix?

Unbelievable, but the exact same thing has happened to me with my 2006.

It happened twice in the last month, when it goes to about 1/4 tank it went off, with all the beeps and DIC messages. Both times I filled it up and it's OK.
I reset the trip odometer each time I fill up, in case it's a permanent problem, so when I get to 200 miles, I know to fill up.

Here's the downside, if it's a permanent problem, the tank has to be taken out for a cheap part to be replaced, very expensive. I'm hoping it's only an electrical quirk.

Here's the thread I started when it first happened.

The fuel sending unit is a known fail point on the C6, but if yours is still working somewhat it could just be due to a buildup of sulphur on the sending unit inside the tank. If that's the case, just put some Techron in on your next fillup to help clean it off. Alternate every two fillups to add another bottle of Techron. I had the same thing happen on my C5, and after 5 Techron treatments it started working again and I never had another problem with it.

Very common problem in these cars. One of my units is on its way out now. As others have suggested, try running a few tanks through it with Techron and see if that fixes the issue. If not, the fix can be pretty extensive as the gas tank must be dropped to access the sending units.

Well, not that funny. With the fuel gauge reading empty with this problem, I have no idea how much gas is left. So I fill it after 200 miles just to be safe.
FWIW, I’ve gone 400 miles on a tank few times, all highway miles.

I’m just amazed because I rat around town in my Z06 and I bet I don’t get 150 miles out of a tank of fuel. I need to check sometime. It’s bad though.....I know that. I have made a highway trip and averaged around 26-27mpg. It’s just that I don’t even get a third of that most of the time.

I've done the 400 miles mostly in 6th gear on a highway, and filled it up on empty, probably 17 gallons. So 400 divided by 17 gallons is 23.5 MPG, that's about normal.
But high revs will drink the fuel. I usually average about 12-16 MPG in mixed driving.
