Default 2006 can't open the trunk

I just inherited my dad's C6 convertible. When using the trunk release buttons, any of them, or the key, it pops partway but is still latched and can't be opened. One time I was able to finally get it to pop all the way so I sprayed WD40 in there, but it has not helped, and now I can't remember the last time I actually got it open. Ideas?

C6 rears are literally a dust/dirt magnet due to air current, as such switch gets full of road dust/dirt.
Why it's essential to at least twice per year use key to keep mechanism functional.
.
If roadster rears open like coup, ie button underneath by plate?
Two choices.
Removed switch, clean-out grime, reassemble/reinstall -- good to go.
Others replaced switch, my tack.

BTW & FWIW consensus is not using any kind of petroleum lubricant.
Stuff's sticky holding even more grime thereby only aggravating problem.
Graphyte or silicon's recommended.

Also, when I got my Z06 my trunk was hit or miss with actually popping open. Sometimes it would pop but not enough to unlatch and I would have to push it back down and try again. Having the doors/windows open makes a difference sometimes but what I found was my issue is that the hatch struts lost their strength, replaced those and it almost always pops open now unless there is buildup similar to what Landru is referencing. IDK if the trunk on the vert is the same as a coupe but maybe this helps.

There is a thread on this forum about that.....https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...nk-spring.html
I added a rubber capped spring to the latch bolt on the lid. You can buy them online but I made my own...push the button and the lid pops up 1/2"-5/8" If you want to buy one...available at
Amazon Amazon
or at this place https://www.corvettecentral.com/c6-05-13/trunk-hinges-latches-liner-jack/trunk-hinges-latches-liner-jack/97-13-trunk-lid-hatch-strut-assist-pop-up-spring-415102

I had the same problem, and as stated above, I removed the button switch above the license plate, and was shocked at how mush sand was in the switch. I took my time, and cleaned the switch, and voila......no problems since.

This is typical when opening up trunk . I even replaced the 2 struts on my convertible and it’s a hair higher. I click my fob twice and it works slightly better, GM engineers did not address this issue.

I have been pressing the trunk button on the key fob at same time as prying open the trunk w tips of my fingers. Good to do for now until you order that spring like I am.

I had this problem with my 06. I had to pop the trunk, get my finger tips under the edge and lift up while pushing the release button again. It's due to the trunk lid not lifting itself high enough to completely clear the latch. I later bought a 13 and appears the problem was corrected. The trunk lid on the 13 lifts up much higher than the 06. I don't know if there was a running production change to make this happen or if the problem simply varies from car to car.

I tried this and it worked. It sounds like the same problem you were having.
