The,C6 and C7 Corvettes are evolutions of the C5. Asking if the C6 is THAT much better is a question I would expect from someone with simplistic views, as it seems your political views are.

Short of the Zr1 with lotus designed/merc built motor for the C4 that produced 375/370, from 1972 (350 truck motor cars), until the C5 Z06 with the LS6 that produced 405hp, these are considered the under power years of the corvette for the times.

1606699416[/url]]Hello,
I purchased as 3rd owner a 2005 C6 with 24,000 miles, 1sb. Yes it's the first yr of the C6, mint condition and Ive had zero issues with the Vette after 14 months of ownership. I love the C6 compared to the C5 due to its overall stance, smaller dimension verses the C5, 400hp, etc... For the right price I would not steer away from the 2005 C6. I do prefer an automatic transmission and the 2005 has the 4 speed transmission and then in 2006 they went to a 6 speed transmission. At times the down shift gear can seem a bit tall depending on the speed you're traveling. I love owning the first year C6 and some will say the 2005 C6 steering wheel lack radio controls which it does. I actually prefer that and could care less listening to the radio when driving. The only down side... for a 400hp sub 200mph car, the exhaust sounds like a kitty. You'll want to straight or exhaust delete or go after market exhaust to get the effects of a sports car. Those who say don't buy the first year C6, it all hog-wash... every yr car has its corks and if you like it, buy it..

I have the 6 speed and definitely think a short shifter is needed as it takes way to long for shifting. Everyone recommends MGW shifter. I had both a C5 Z06 and now my C6. I prefer the looks/drive of the C6. Figure out what your goals are for the car/budget and pick the car that’s right for you.

The problem with the '05 C6 is the number of one year only parts that aren't available. Some of which are known problems.

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
A little background....over the last 2yrs I went from 05 Mustang GT Convertible to 09Lexus ES350 to 04 GTO to another 05 GT to 2013 Charger RT to a Infinity q60 and q50 .....and I might even have forgotten something....
Each time I looked for a vette at the same time. but didnt find one at that moment.
the GTO I liked. with just a tune and otr air intake that sucker would break the back end loose when hitting 2nd gear in the auto tranny. I sold it only because parts were expensive if they were not available stateside.....
so needless to point out I am tired of buying cars and not quite scratching that itch. the RT was good but unfortunately I didnt like all the negative vibes from owning one. was afraid I was going to end up shot over mistaken identity.
I know all cars need work. I have had 50 cars or so in my life . done all the work myself.
this 05 C6 I have found looks nice. is stock and is a different color than most I see which is a plus.

you make incorrect assumptions. none of the cars I had needed any work and were all mint and exceptional versions. just part of my personality to want to try out all types of cars for different reasons. they all have had the same single trait of being somewhat fast. some faster than others.
I wasnt comparing the SHO vs the vette in performance but I was comparing the 2 in features. I can by a 20K 2018 SHO with every feature known to man or a 20K c6 vette with next to nothing..that includes the top of the line c6. two different animals but only mentioned because you stated " you get what you pay for" which in terms of the vette is not really true.
I am not some teenage kid with champaigne taste on a beer budget I simply have had enough cars and was also in the car business to know that the $$$ of lots of these cars has nothing to do with what you get . with hard work you can actually get more for less
I choose not to buy the most expensive car I can afford . it does not mean I buy junk that needs work.

As already posted, the biggest potential liability with an 05 is quite a few one year only parts that can be hard to get when a replacement is needed.

i said i did all the work … as in maintenance … like all cars need. Never once did i say i buy cars that need work.
i can show 2 cars under $20k with under 100k miles..
anyhow
ive found a low mileage 02 that is going to be brought to me to look at. I could buy the c6 but i actually like the C5.
