I'm interested in having my GS 3rd brake light housing painted . The car is Velocity Yellow / tint coat . Will I get a close enough match if a shop paints with the correct color and just clear . Does the tint coat not being used make a noticeable difference or can a shop actually tint the clear ? There are lots of painted base housings aftermarket-but few if any GS or Z06- Any thoughts or suggestions?

I had a 2013 GS vert in VY.
Bought a ZR1 spoiler for it.
A pro shop painted it twice and still had trouble with matching the paint.
Got close enough I didn't want it stripped again fearing damage.
Let them have the car so they can match it or get close.
Good luck.
Any reputable shop should be able to do it, but bring them the car so they can match it with the right alternate card. Velocity Yellow may have anywhere from 2-30 alternate chips... only way to tell is to check it against existing paint. Even then sometimes it requires some blending to get it perfect. The right shop will have no problem though.
I want to make this clear, I know very little about mixing and matching paint. I do have a good enough eye to see if it does or doesn't match however. So here is my experience having several cars needing paint work over the years. By the way I have that same GS but mine is a coupe. I also have the velocity yellow. I bought a pair of "matching" valve/coil covers from one of the suppliers frequently advertising on this forum. This isn't a complaint. The covers are slightly lighter in color than the yellow on my car. Since it's under the hood, it isn't as noticeable. If it were a spoiler, I would be pissed off and tell them try again and if they can't match it I will go elsewhere. With that in mind, my local Chev dealer has a great body shop. They have a spectrographic wave color reading machine that gets the match as perfect as possible in terms of color. The texture of the paint is the other factor that can cause a mismatch. So a human skill needs to get involved to get it "perfect". It does depend on your budget and how finicky you are. Keep in mind only "near" perfect is possible. Love your car!
OP, are you saying you want the small little GS brake light housing painted? Why not get a full-length spoiler and have it painted for the trouble that you're about to go through?
Are you getting it painted locally? If so, then I assume you'll take the car to them so they can match vs. remvoing the 3rd brake light housing and taking just the part to them to paint.
What I've read is people with the Daytona Orange, etc, will remove the gas tank cover part and send it / give it to the paint company to use to match the paint.
A good shop will match it to the panel it's touching. It doesn't need to be a perfect color match to the chip, only to the adjacent panels. The shop I used for my rear spoilers had a special camera they used to take pics of the surrounding panels & uploaded them to their computer. They did a few spray outs to make sure it matched before painting the entire spoiler. You'd never know it wasn't factory
Good Luck to the OP to getting it matched perfectly. I purchased pieces (door handles, and spoiler plus the engine covers) painted Velocity yellow, and they matched perfectly from the company that I got them from. After a few years, I removed the painted door handles and the spoiler, and returned to the original black to match the wheels, coupe lexan top, etc. I did purchased an OEM Z06 spolier to replace the OEM base spolier.
VY can be matched.

This ^ ^ ^ great advice, the shop I use does the same.
