Default 2011 GS coupe 3lt battery

My 2011 Grandsport stays in my garage in Florida for 6 months being unused, I've always used a battery tender with no issues. This past year I came down and the battery was no good nor was the battery tender, the battery was only a year old. I was wondering if it would be just as easy to just disconnect the battery instead of using a tender since it's for such a long time. Please be easy I'm only asking a question. Thanks Bob

Lead-acid batteries self-discharge even when unconnected. The discharge rate increases with temperature, which will work against you considering where you live. Here is a chart for comparison.

25°C is 77°F. 35°C is 95°F, so if it was the latter temp in your garage over 6 months, you’d lose about 30% of the charge based on the graph. Your car should still start, but if it was me, I’d just get another maintainer and hook it up a couple of days before you intended to drive it. That should be enough time even for a 1.5 A maintainer to fully charge it and give your alternator a break from trying to do so. Just my .02 worth.
