Default C6 windshield ?

Often wonder how your day can get better ? By finding a cracked windshield, of course ! So now I have to source one, and it has the HUD , so really want the specially treated one for same . If it makes any difference,as I believe it does it has the satnav/GPS,, so that I believe needs another version other than a 'base' windshield. Oh, and I'm in the U.K. How much better do I need my day to be ? What I would like to know,, therefore, is , how can one identify a Hud one from a reular one? I suppose the satnav thing ought to be fairly visible, but I don't want to end up with a regular windshield, even though the consensus is that it works reasonably well. The polarized HUD version has better visibility in all con ditions, and is what is installed just now. If anyone can help with identifying these windshields, either by any markings on the glass , or other means, please let me know, eh ? Any help with a supplier will be welcome, although I think shipping to the U.K. might be an issue , but I've pretty well run out of options here .I'm pretty sure this occurred when I could not avoid an almighty , sharp-edged pot-hole, and then found myself on a VERY rough side-road , just to compound my 'pleasure'. Then , if I can actually get a windshield, all I have to do is find someone to fit it. This has the feeling of being the start of a saga of rather epic proportions........Thanx for any and all help, folks !
Nigel H.

These should be GM part numbers. I wanna say getting one with NAV/GPS/Sattelite antenna was for GM OnStar, which I believe has been discontinued by GM so not relevant anymore. I may be wrong. I have to assume the UK has auto glass install shops, so I would start there. You would likely get an aftermarket windshield from their supplier.

20784512 with hud+NAV
25996277 with hud w/o NAV
25996275 w/o hud w/o NAV

Your OE windshield should have some identifyer as for HUD on the label.

On the above, subtract nav, and change that to On-star.

Hence hud or no hud, its how the windsheild will reflect the Hub better or not.

On on-star or not, is the size of the black band up by the rear veiw mirror, if it need to hide the ON star module or not.
Much large black out band on windsheild for on star.

Smaller black out to for none On star cars.

I actually will be replacing my windshield with a Safelite one on the 2nd of May. Someone before me installed tint on the windshield and to say the least I don't like loosing that much vision at night looking out the front.

Parts and labor $418.95
Front advanced beam blades $69.98
Safelite Rain Defense $44.99
Save $100 -$100.00

Subtotal $433.92 Sales tax $25.03
Total $458.95

I did not know there were non-onstar windshields. I thought GM pushed that crap on everyone. I would get one of those for sure since onstar doesn't even work anymore. Then you can bin the module. Every state I've ever lived in has compulsory auto glass coverage with no deductable as part of your insurance policy. Just have to pitch a fit to get them to use OE windshield.

When I hit a deer on the way home from Power Tour 2 years ago I was lucky in that my only damage was a broken fog light and a cracked windshield. Because I wanted to reduce the reflection off the inside of the glass under some conditions that can greatly reduce visibility, I chose the non HUD glass for replacement. The reflection off the inside glass is reduced but not gone and the HUD works just fine and the glass is cheaper. I removed the on-star at that time also.

Folks, thanks for your replies. I will have a look at mine, and see if I can find the label with the HUD deatils on it, or not ,I don't think it has On-Star, which wouldn't work here, anyway . I had read thatthe GPS/satnav antenna is located next to the rear view mirror, but that may have been confused with the On-Star box . Whatever, it seems I'm struggling to find anything over here. We have tons of windshield install shops, but one for a 'Vette is really throwing them a curve-ball , and no mistake.I will post a follow-up when/if there's anything to report. The quest continues..........

Had a look at mine yesterday, and see the data panel on the lower passenger side. It clearly states 'HUD' , so that speaks for itself. However, I think it has that 'OnStar' box , to the right of the interior mirror, seems, without getting in the car to measure up , to be about 7 inches by 2 inches, or so. Now, it turns out the largest national windshield chain over here can actually get them , much to my surprise , and it seems they list the 3 variants of the windshield regarding GPS, HUD or just 'basic' glass. What I need to know now, is, is the OnStar box thing the antenna for the satnav/GPS, as well as the OnStar ,as mine has the nav , which works fine , or is it just for the OnStar functions, which would not have worked over here, even if it was still in operation. If I need that box thing for satnav, I think I ought to check with the glass company that they are getting the right one. And , if necessary, is it advisable of easy enough to remove the OnStar box if it's not needed? The insurers may not want to cough up for something that is useless. This result surprised me , very much, as the American parts specialist I had contacted all came up blank. Not only seems like I 'll be fixed up , but the fitting depot is within a hour's leisurely walk from home, through pleasant countyside!
Who'da thunk it, eh?

I had HUD installed in a 1LT 08 I had way back when. It worked fine on that windshield.

That box to the right of the inside mirror is just OnStar, it is not GPS. There have been at least 2 different GPS antenna over the years but they have never been part of the OnStar system.

Dr.Gallup,
O.K. , thahanks for that info . Now I need to know where the GPS antenna for the nav is. I suspect it may be in thewindshield pillar , or similar . I could maybe remove the OnStrar box , but I don't want untidy wiring or such left hanging. I don't have a factory service manual , but I have a partial one on dvd which may give a clue to where the antenna is hiding. I need to keep that, as the euro nav works well .

GPS antenna for nav is in the dash, just above the radio.

If you have factory XM, then its antennas are in the side mirrors (one in each for cars 2006 and up), and if your going aftermarket, then just mount that antenna in the rear fender void area as high as you can find a spot to mount it.

on am/fm antenna, it on the back of rearwell wall under the carpet.

So on windsheilf, either Hud or not, since Hud windsheild will reflect the hud image better,
Then if Onstar for the longer wider black upper band to hide the Onstar unit mounted on on the back of the windshield, or no on star that the solid black is only at the mirror location, then dot matrix dots out from there.

Dano 523,
thanks for that info. All much clearer now. I was unaware the GPS antenne was in there, you may have thought I'd have spotted it whilst having the dash out recently to change a failed HUD unit. So , it looks like the mount for the OnStar is what is on my existing windshield, the only reason I was looking for one with this blacked-out area was to remount the OnStar for the sake of neatness . It never worked in the U.K. anyway , neither does XM , but I could not care less for radio , my music comes from the tailpipe ! I think I have found a windshield , but it has to come from Germany, and since Brexit, I now get stiffed with import duty and sales tax. Still cheaper than what the remaining American GM agent quoted me , 2,350 pounds , plus tax , plus fitting .Looking at well over 3 grand ! That's in our money, more in your 'real' currency. If I am to be reincarnated, I'll come back as a seller of windshields..........

Further update !!
Autoglass called to say 'we have your windshield ' ! Fancy that , eh ? Turned out not to have the area for the OnStar blacked-out, but HUD and tint were correct. Might need to get rid of that useless OnStar, if it can be done in a tidy manner.

I removed Onstar when I replaced my glass on my vert. That spot on mine does have the the dotted area which I used for my toll road transponder.
